Pokémon Sword and Shield leakers to each pay The Pokémon Company $150,000 following settlement of 2019 lawsuit

Published

on

Two Pokémon leakers have been required to individually reimburse The Pokémon company $150,000 following the settlement of a lawsuit dating back to 2019.

First reported by Polygon, court documents filed on June 22 show that the two defendants will now need to pay the fine in damages and attorney fees to The Pokémon Company.

Prior to the release of Pokémon Sword and Shield, the two individuals shared photos of an unreleased strategy guide online. Initially, the only information that The Pokémon Company had was the screenshots of the guides posted by the defendants to Discord. During the court proceedings, however, they discovered the identities of the posters and that they had been employees of the company hired to print the guides.

When the lawsuit first began, a lawyer representing The Pokémon Company spoke about the process in place to stop images like this from leaking from printing facilities.

“Only production facility employees with proper security clearance have access to the Strategy Guide during the production process,” lawyers for The Pokémon Company wrote. “Those with permission to access the secured areas are not permitted to bring in cellular phones or cameras.”

The photos that were shared to Discord before going viral across the Pokémon community showcased some features that weren’t in prior entries to the franchise, including Gigantamax forms of some Pokémon.

In the process of finding the identity of the leakers, The Pokémon Company was able to subpoena Discord and 4chan to aid in tracking down their identities.

These photos weren’t the only leaks of Sword and Shield to circulate the web prior to its release. The Pokémon Company claimed that the leaked images and video online created an incomplete picture of the game and were a part of the backlash they received under the hashtag #GameFreakLied prior to its release.

With the two defendants required to pay this hefty fine, it may deter leakers from sharing similar content in future.

Nintendo Switch users in Japan can now download Pokémon Unite ahead of tomorrow’s network test

Published

on

Nintendo Switch owners in Japan who want to get in on Pokémon Unite can now download the software from the Switch eShop today.

The first Pokémon MOBA is preparing for its network test beginning tomorrow. It will be available from June 24 to 26 prior to its launch in July.

The download reportedly takes up about 1GB of space, and may require a further update when the servers go live tomorrow. But for a Switch title, it is reasonably small.

There had been alpha testing completed in Canada and other regions for the mobile version of the game, specifically for users on Android devices. Nintendo shared recently that the game will see a global launch on Switch in July before coming to mobile devices in September.

This MOBA title will be free to play, similar to many other titles in the genre, and will have its own battle pass style reward system for players to purchase and work through. Early information has revealed that users won’t be required to have Switch online to play Pokémon Unite, but the specifics of this are unclear. We’ll likely get an answer to this question on the weekend once an influx of players gets their hands on the title.

If you’re in Japan, this will be your best chance to try out the game prior to its launch, so don’t miss out. For the rest of the world, it looks like you’ll need to wait until July to try it for yourself.

How to restart the VALORANT game client

Published

on

Occasionally, games will have problems with the client launching on PC, meaning that certain aspects of the game will not function or the client won’t start at all.

For VALORANT, and other Riot Games’ titles, client errors typically result in specific error codes that disrupt your ability to play them. This includes the simple pop-up that asks you to “restart the VALORANT game client,” which typically appears around updates dropping for the game.

Like with any game, restarting the client means you will need to exit out of VALORANT entirely. You can do this by using the Alt+F4 keyboard command or Ctrl+Alt+Del and manually ending the VALORANT session on the Task Manager.

Most of the time, you can simply exit the client normally and it will still completely reset the game before launching it again. If closing out of the client doesn’t work, make sure your game is completely up to date, too. There could be some issue with the current version of the game you are trying to run. Outside of that, you can also try restarting your computer to see if it fixes whatever might be blocking your VALORANT or general Riot client from running properly.

TSM FTX reportedly acquiring Free Fire roster

Published

on

TSM FTX could be signing a Free Fire roster in India, according to a report by Sportskeeda.

The report claims that a leaked pic from the official Free Fire esports website shows that the North American organization has acquired the roster of Sixth Sense. Dot Esports wasn’t able to independently verify this. Currently, the official website seems to have no mention of TSM FTX.

Sixth Sense has been performing really well in 2021 and it wouldn’t be surprising that it gets picked up by TSM. The team came fourth in the spring season of the Free Fire India Championship last March and also won the Tri-Series in April.

Earlier this month, TSM signed a $210 million naming rights deal with crypto exchange FTX. The company had said that it would be using the money to expand globally which included investing in mobile gaming. The CEO of the organization, Andy Dinh, also said in a tweet earlier this month that they will be looking to expand into mobile esports.

Free Fire is one of the biggest esports titles in the world in terms of viewership. The Free Fire World Series (FFWS) Singapore, which happened last month, peaked at 5.4 million viewers. This represents the highest viewership for an esports tournament outside of China, according to Esports Charts.

Currently, TSM has an active PUBG Mobile roster in India which was formed in a partnership with local esports organization Entity Gaming. TSM Entity has been a dominant face in the Indian PUBG Mobile scene but was stagnant for the past 10 months due to a ban on the game in the country. With the return of Battlegrounds Mobile India, they will be looking to conquer the scene once again.
