Tarih:

So one of the most daunting aspects of the cannabis world, especially when shopping, is knowing about weights. If you’re like me and just don’t understand units of measurement of the top of your head it can be even more difficult. If someone says a quarter to me I still can’t quite picture how much that is. The main reason you need to know this when shopping is making sure you’re getting enough bang for your buck. Nothing worse than someone saying “it’s bu kadar için this weight” and you having no idea what that means. Not only can you end up overspending on a shyster who realises you don’t know what you’re doing, but you can feel alienated from the community all together. So today let’s get you confident on your weights and measures before you go shopping.

The Most Common Weights Broken Down

Gram: You can probably guess that this is a small amount since a gram is basically nothing when weighing any item. A gram is one-thousandth of a kilogram and is the smallest metric you can actually buy weed in. I’m not saying anyone is going to sell you a gram of weed in this day and age, but 3.5 grams, otherwise known as an eighth, is often an option. After breaking down the basic measurements we will also have a look at general slang or colloquialisms used for amounts so you can shop like a real cool guy. The average cost of a gram is a £10r, which is why a lot of dealers don’t bother with it anymore.

Sekizinci: We obviously just said how much this is, 3.5 grams, but it’s a great one to know if you are new to smoking or are still trying to find your strain. I’ll say that in the modern day you might find it harder to locate a salesperson who doesn’t have a minimum spend, especially if they deliver. So if you are new it’s a good idea to shop around or ask friends if they know anyone who deals in eighths so you’re not committing to a big old bag of something you might hate. On average an eighth will cost you anything between £20 and £40 depending on which part of the country you are in.

çeyrek: This is likely an amount you will have heard bandied around quite a lot. A quarter is just that, a quarter of an ounce or 7 grams.  If you are past the point of just wanting little bags or you have found a strain you like but don’t smoke super often then a quarter is probably the best amount for you. They are also the last option that could potentially be considered affordable in most places if you are going to make it last. On average in the UK a quarter will cost you £50 to £70. About an average week of drinking…right? Is that what other people spend? Anyway…

Yarım: Obviously, this is just half an ounce of weed and this is where the more regular smokers or heavier smokers are likely to be. Half an ounce is around equal to 17 grams. You will likely end up dropping a minimum of £80 on a half but it could get up to £140 odd. Again this very much depends on where you live and what you are buying.

Ounce: For those who smoke a serious amount or who just like to buy in bulk when something they love comes in the ounce is the easiest. Definitely not one you’ll be after if you’re a beginner smoker. An ounce is equal to 28 grams. The average cost of an ounce is obviously pretty high because it’s a lot of weed. Usually, you’d be paying £160 to £280 but depending on what you’re buying it could be a little higher.

UK Weed Slang

So slang is different everywhere and you might struggle at the start with feeling left out because people aren’t necessarily using terms like eighth or half ounce. So let’s have a little go through what some of the slang you might hear means so you still know what’s going on.

Mavi: This is a fun term that just means a 0.5 gram bag, the other term usually used is iki veya beş kişiyle oynanan top oyunu. Being Scotland based I’ve never heard the term bluey myself but I have heard either fives or a Five Bit. Again in this day and age you would be hard pressed to find a dealer that would sell anyone a five bit.

Çanta: A bag is a really common one for certain types of dealer and just means a gram. This is because it used to be the easiest amount to bring out in bags to sell outdoors. Because a gram usually costs a 10r it is also often called a Ten Bit or onlarca, much live the fives thing. I have many fond memories of saying “pick me up a ten bit” while I was at uni many, many, many years ago.

Q: Unsurprisingly this is just a quick and fun way of asking for a quarter ounce. You could likely figure that out yourself. A lot of people will also just ask for a quarter.

Posta Kodu: I haven’t really heard this term used but hey just in case. A zip is just a term that means an ounce because this is the level where it can no longer fit in a little bag and has to move to a ziplock bag. I doubt you’ll need it but you can never be too prepared.

Hopefully you are now a little less squeamish about going shopping for yourself and are starting to feel more empowered as a smoker. I know for beginners, especially women in a male dominated market, it can add a lot to be confident in what you are asking for. Do a little research on strains you might like, shop around, and if you aren’t sure, ask your friends or the internet to make sure you aren’t being taken advantage of.
