Say ‘yee-haw’ to the Nuggetty Saloon in Victoria’s wild west as a golden opportunity for homebuyers looking to saddle up for a unique tree change.

Narelle Leivers and Brett Pressley are selling their 32.69ha property at 300 Maldon-Shelbourne Rd in Nuggetty, a five-minute drive from Maldon in the Central Goldfields, including its very own old American-style bar, with $1.395m price hopes.

Named The Rusty Gate, the site has three separate buildings: the main residence, guesthouse and rustic saloon all built by Mr Pressley.

Pressley, a film and television set builder who worked on Crocodile Dundee, decided to lasso his carpentry talents to construct the saloon just before turning 50.

Ms Leivers said her partner spent three weeks working on the project after seeing a TV program featuring a similar structure.

“He worked on it day and night for three weeks, he was a man on a mission,” she said.

“We had his 50th birthday in there, we called it a wild west party, there were hay bales, a bonfire and a five-piece band on the veranda.”

Fittingly, the entry to The Rusty Gate is marked by a gate.

Many visitors have suggested renting out the saloon for weddings and functions as it can fit up to 50 guests and features a pool table and piano.

The saloon has views of the Nuggetty Ranges, Mount Tarrengower and The Rusty Gate’s vineyards.

Ms Leivers and Mr Pressley make wine, which they give to friends and sell at local stores under a wholesale licence.

“The saloon could also be turned into a cellar door, if that is something a buyer is interested in,” Ms Leivers said.

Within the shed-like house lies both a home and plenty of space for cars, trucks and other vehicles to park.

Shiraz, cabernet sauvignon and semillon grapevines flourish.

The couple bought the property in 2012 and live with their horse Toby, donkey Katie and two hand-reared sheep.

Fitting with the country theme, the main house and guest abode were designed to resemble sheds from the outside.

“We also have approved planning permits for two B&B cottages to be built behind the vineyard and a Harkaway home,” Ms Leivers said.

The Harkaway Homes company build houses based on Federation and Victorian styles.

Two large shed spaces are located on the site.

Jellis Craig Castlemaine partner Leah Panos described The Rusty Gateas “unique and a one-off”.

“Every single potential buyer has looked at the saloon and thought it was fantastic,” Ms Panos said.
