Elouise Barlow reacts as parents David and Jeanette were the successful bidders in Belmont.

They came, they saw, the conquered. Buyers from the New South Wales Riverina district executed the perfect snatch and grab raid at a Belmont auction on Saturday.

David and Jeanette Barlow emerged with the contracts to a full renovated home in Eton Rd, which will become home to their youngest daughter Elouise, who is studying sports and exercise science and business management and living on campus at Deakin University.

The Barlows were in Geelong to watch Elouise in a netball final, but thought they’d start their property search in Belmont and Newtown.

Their criteria was clear – the home needed to be fully renovated, easy to clean and suitable as a share house.

David and Jeanette Barlow and daughter Elouise were the successful bidders in Belmont.

Matthew Constantine called the auction.

A young family pushed hard but ultimately missed out on the property.

“It’s one of the first places we’ve looked at,” Ms Barlow said.

“We’ve saved having to drive all around town today.”

Mr Barlow said they were looking for something that was fully renovated, something they didn’t need to spend much money on after the purchase.

The family operates a farm and grain handling and storage business at Jerilderie.

Barry Plant, Highton auctioneer Matthew Constantine said that was the number-one characteristic at this address.

“It’s an opportunity that is glaringly obvious in the current market,” he said.

“It’s renovated to perfection – move in with nothing to do. Four good sized bedrooms, two bathrooms and importantly, two living zones.

A weatherboard facade gave the home a new street presence.

The immaculate kitchen offers a breakfast bar and walk-in pantry.

The open fireplace provides a rustic focal point in the front living room.

“Not a finger to be lifted, that’s what it provides and the lifestyle you’re looking for if you’re excited by that.”

Mr Constantine said to purchase an unrenovated property at the moment, the buyers would probably need their head read, given the cost situation in the building industry.

While the bidding opened at $700,000, Mr Constantine immediately brought the price up to $900,000 to get closer to the $990,000 to $1.08m range.

It took some time as two parties edged closer to the top of the range, where Mr Constantine declared the property was on the market.

The modern makeover of this Belmont beauty delivers a spacious family residence in a popular pocket of the favourite suburb.

Large proportions are locked in with four bedrooms, a spacious family room with an open fireplace and a well appointed open-plan kitchen.

Add gas ducted heating, evaporative cooling and all the necessary updates such as stumping, wiring, plumbing and roofing and it’s ready to go.
