The Tokyo Game Show will take place online this year, marking its second online iteration as a result of the COVID-19 pandemic. It is also the event’s 25th anniversary, and its theme will be “We’ll always have games.”
There will still be an in-person aspect to the event, as the event’s regular venue, Makuhari Messe, will host a press- and influencer-only event for demos and interviews.

The online showcase will take place Sept. 30 to Oct. 30. A new matchmaking system will connect exhibitors and trade attendees in private meetings online. Presentations will be broadcast online with Japanese native feeds and an English translation, and the event plans to allow consumers to play demo versions of some featured games.
The Tokyo Game Show, often referred to as TGS, is one of the biggest video game events on the industry calendar. Its 2019 iteration had over a quarter of a million attendees.
