Could 2021 be the year of the Tiny Home as home replacement post-Covid?

TinyFest California 2021 announces its 2nd annual live Tiny Home Festival beginning Friday, May 14-Sunday, May 16th in the historic Bing Crosby Hall at the Del Mar Fairgrounds, in San Diego. The only West Coast Tiny Home Festival so far this year, the fest will be a COVID Aware Responsible Event (C.A.R.E.), including social distancing, and mask-wearing indoors.

Speaker lineup will include Keynote Speaker Zack Giffin (Tiny House Nation/A&E), Lindsay Wood (Experience Tiny Homes), Nick Mosley, (California Tiny Homes), Genny Crane (Rebuilding Green and Tiny Now), Diana Arredondo (Architecture Professor, Southwest College.)

Festival attendees can tour houses from pro-builders, DIYers, Van Lifers and Tiny Dwellers as well as tiny houses on wheels, backyard cottages, shipping container homes, vans, bus conversions (“skoolies”) and more! Speaker presentations, workshops, Q&As and Panel Discussions to be held onsite (updated schedule on website).

Many cities like Los Angeles, San Jose and San Diego, have all passed ordinances allowing the legalization of Movable Tiny Homes in backyards of single family residences. In a state with 3 million houses needed to be built to meet current demand, Tiny Homes offer an affordable option to many families who might not otherwise be able to afford a home of their own.

The American Tiny House Association will also host a pre-festival Symposium on Thursday, May 13th, from 1:00-3:00 pm, with local city, county, and state officials in attendance to discuss the future of Movable Tiny Housing in California.

For many in this time of Covid, “Going Tiny” is more than just buying and moving into a Tiny home, says TinyFest CEO Renee McLaughlin. It’s about “sustainability, autonomy, flexibility, and freedom – financial freedom, freedom of mobility, and freedom from stuff and stress. It’s also about having fun!”

Tickets available for Friday, Saturday and Sunday of TinyFest at $15 on the website; a streaming option is also available for $5 for those not able to attend in person. https://www.tinyfest.events/tickets_ca.

Live music and entertainment will also be available onsite. Kid friendly; no pets allowed at this time except for service animals. Hope to see you there, and Tiny On!
