The VR Game Launch Roundup: Guns Galore (and a Little Football)

Date:

It’s been a good week for virtual reality (VR) releases with the likes of In Death: Unchained and Dreams VR support. Next week continues that positive trend with another nice selection of titles to keep VR fans happy.

Pistol Whip - Full Throttle

Pistol Whip – Cloudhead Games

Originally released for PC VR headsets and Oculus Quest in November 2019, now it’s the turn of PlayStation VR to support this rhythm-action experience. Featuring thumping tunes and highly stylised design, Pistol Whip challenges players to complete scenes by shooting enemies, dodging bullets and pistol-whipping them in time to the music. It’s also a bit of a workout.

  • Supported platforms: PlayStation VR
  • Release date: 28th July

Wrest – Shaftesbury Lucid Inc

Pushed back for its initial launch date in April hopefully this won’t happen again. Wrest is a horror title where you play an engineer called Andy Bishop, who wakes to discover a terrifying mystery unfolding in his home. For those that want to test the experience first, developer Shaftesbury Lucid Inc has already made a demo available on Steam.

Snapshot VR – Giant Scam Industries

An arena shooter offering solo and team-based modes, Snapshot VR has been designed around professional paintball tournaments with up to 5-players per side. Coming to Viveport first, the gameplay is very fast and frantic with teams having an average of only 45 seconds to win. Plus there’s a map editor for community content creation.

Onward – Downpour Interactive

Another big title due to arrive for Oculus Quest, the popular PC VR military shooter will feature crossplay support. There are solo and co-op, and multiplayer gameplay modes, providing AI opponents to hone those skills before trying a 10-person battle with three objectives to chose from; save a VIP, control an Uplink station or secure an area to upload a code.

Headmaster Keeper

Headmaster: Extra Time Edition – Frame Interactive

An original launch title for PlayStation VR in 2016, developer Frame Interactive has teamed up with Perp Games to release Headmaster: Extra Time Edition as a physical edition featuring the original experience as well as the DLC. It’s all about practising those football headshots across a range of less than traditional training challenges.

  • Supported platforms: PlayStation VR (physical edition)
  • Release date: 31st July
