The Ultimate Stoner’s Guide to Calgary [Travel Guide]

Date:

If you find yourself in YYC there are a few places you must check out! To make your life easier, here is the ultimate stoner’s guide to Calgary.

Calgary is a lively city with fun activities to keep you entertained all year long. If you are in the city from April till let’s say September, the weather is really nice! However, Calgary does have very long, chilly winters stretching from October to March. Nevertheless, there are plenty of fun activities for a stoner to do indoors, and in the great outdoors. In this stoners guide to Calgary we have highlighted these attractions:

Telus Spark Centre – for the curious stoner!

If you and your friends want something fun to do indoors – other than getting baked and watching Netflix – we recommend getting baked and checking out the Telus Spark Centre! This place is an impressive science museum that hosts nearly half a million curious minds every year! People of all ages come to interact with the exhibits while having fun learning about whatever draws them in. But, if you want to enjoy your time kid-free, come on an adults-only night when they serve alcohol and stay open late. Take some shots for science! I am positive you will have a very fun 420 experience here.

Spark brings people together to learn, play and create with science, technology, engineering, art and math.

Prince’s Island Park & Peace Bridge

If the weather is nice, we recommend packing some essentials and going on a walk through Prince’s Island Park. This beautiful park is located right in the heart of the city, just north of downtown Calgary. If you’re lucky, you might catch an event here as they host the Calgary Folk Festival, Canada Day Celebrations, and many more. If you are visiting Calgary we would highly recommend walking to the Peace Bridge (shown above) which is just a few minutes west of the park. The Peace Bridge connects Eau Claire to Sunnyside. It is a popular spot to take Instagram worthy pictures! It cost the city a cool $24.5 Million.

Studio Bell – for the musical stoner

This is a fairly new addition to Calgary and an impressive one at that! Studio Bell is the home of over 2,000 rare instruments, including the most notable Carthy Organ. If you are into music and have a curiosity about the history, production, or if you just want to wander around and take it all in, you’ve got to check this place out! Studio Bell hosts live performance events here too. This place is super impressive inside and out!

To give Canada a place that amplifies the love, sharing and understanding of music.

You will find a selection of over 80 games such as classic arcade games, air hockey tables, ping pong, pool, even virtual reality games! El Furniture Warehouse – A hungry stoners paradise

El Furniture Warehouse

Located downtown on Stephen Avenue, El Furniture Warehouse is a great spot to stop if you are a hungry stoner! It is much more affordable to eat here than any of the surrounding restaurants in Calgary. Just how affordable you ask? Well, every food item on their menu is $5.95 all day long. As soon as you walk in, you will feel right at home. The atmosphere at this place is really laid back. All of the staff is super friendly and the other patrons are likely stoned and munching too! The music here is always on point, the food is cheap, they have awesome drink specials too… what more could you want? Click here for directions and to peek at the menu.

For the adventurous stoner: Fish Creek Provincial Park

If you are a stoner who loves to explore the great outdoors, we recommend getting high and adventuring around Fish Creek Park. This network of paths stems over 53 miles to enjoy hiking, biking, or running. It spreads across many communities in South Calgary and there are many access points. At the furthest South-East end, there is a man-made lake called Sikome Lake that is a popular spot in the summertime. Throughout the trails, there are picnic tables, benches and public washrooms to use. This is a great place to explore because you could walk around for hours and hours here and the terrain changes quite a lot along the way.

Calgary Stampede

If you love the adrenaline of the amusement rides, you are in for a fun time!! If not, there are plenty of other things to keep you entertained from carnival games, chuckwagon races, concerts, beer gardens, and more! Not to mention the endless supply of deep-fried-deliciousness to put any stoner with the munchies in heaven!

Unfortunately, the Stampede is canceled for this year. But maybe you can check it out next year! For more information on the “greatest outdoor show on earth” click here.
