UFC or the Ultimate Fighting Championship has just filed for two patent applications to get into the NFT bandwagon as we can see more in our latest crypto news.

The Ultimate Fighting Championship champion Francis Ngannou already released his own NFT. UFC is now the world’s premier MMA promotion and it is poised to start selling NFTs. It also filed two trademarks with the application first being noticed by Josh Gerben who is the founder of the law company Gerben Intellectual Property.

The first is a trademark to launch a UFC branded cryptocurrency which makes room for the NFT and fungible tokens alike. The patent encompasses crypto services like providing a digital currency, digital token, or NFT for use by crypto members via the global computer network. The second provides an app for what would be a cryptocurrency. The application reads:

“Downloadable software which provides members to receive, access, spend, trade and manage cryptocurrency, digital currency, digital tokens, non-fungible tokens, digital collectible, and digital assets.”

The filings were made with the United States Patent and Trademark Office. UFC is getting into the NFT business but the current champion Francis Ngannou already launched an NFT. He made more money from the release of the NFT after beating Stipe Micoic than the UFC guaranteed him for the title. The patent application could be recent but the MMA promotion already started working out to put popular fighters like Conor McGregor on the blockchain.

Dapper Labs, the team behind CryptoKitties started working with UFC in 2020 to create a digital collectible for the most popular fighters and this move continued with a merger of sports and NFTs. The latest move signals how MMA embraced the booming NFT market as well. We also saw the basketball industry joining in with the NBA Top Shot launch which is an online marketplace where users can buy the most memorable moments in an NFT form. This also didn’t stop individual players from embracing non-fungible tokens.

Jalen Suggs, an NBA star, also released his game-winning shot as an NFT while the Golden State Warriors also released a series of these non-fungible tokens that celebrated the team’s greatest moments. In Baseball, Red Sox legend Ted William’s daughter, launch an NFT as well that chronicles the career of her father.
