New Labour leader Keir Starmer wrote in an article for The Sunday Times that “serious mistakes” have been made in the UK’s response to the pandemic. He said the focus will now be on finding out why the nation is “so far behind on testing,” and will be calling for a comprehensive vaccine programme.

Health secretary Matt Hancock has said outdoor exercise could be banned if people don’t stop gathering in parks during the lockdown. He urged that the minority don’t “spoil it for everybody.”

Prime Minister Boris Johnson is still self-isolating, as is his pregnant partner Carrie Symonds, who started experiencing “the main symptoms” of the coronavirus on April 4.
