Royal Canadian Air Force visits Canadore College Aviation Campus in North Bay

It’s not every day the Royal Canadian Air Force (RCAF) comes to a college campus, let alone bring along some well-known aircraft, but the RCAF was recently at Canadore College’s Aviation Campus in North Bay.
Aviation students, as well as some secondary school students, got the opportunity for an up-close look at a CF-18 fighter jet and a CH-147 Chinook helicopter.

“We had a fantastic visit to Canadore College,” said Brig.-Gen. Mark Goulden. “We were very impressed with the quality of the programs Canadore provides, the enthusiasm of the students and the professionalism of the staff and professors. The RCAF is eager to offer rewarding and challenging opportunities to any Canadore graduate interested in an aircraft maintenance career. In addition to excellent benefits, the experiences you can have with the RCAF are something you just won’t find anywhere else.”
“I had the pleasure of meeting with Brig.-Gen. Goulden to discuss recruitment and collaboration opportunities. A big thank you to the RCAF Air Attractions Team for bringing the CF-18 and Chinook helicopter to Canadore’s Aviation Campus,” said president and CEO George Burton. “For our aviation students, it was a chance to learn about the wonderful career paths available in the RCAF. Hopefully next time the weather will co-operate and we can provide the same experience to more secondary school students in the North Bay area.”
“The students toured the aircraft and were able to speak directly with the pilots and the crew responsible for maintaining the aircraft,” said Brett Chadwick, professor and co-ordinator of aviation and aerospace technology. “There is a huge opportunity right now for young people interested in this career, both locally and within the military. I don’t think I’ve ever seen them this excited.”
“It was impressive because this was the closest I’ve been to a military aircraft, being able to inspect it,” said Felipe Gottardo, a second-year aircraft maintenance student from Brazil. “We don’t focus on military aircraft here [in class], but we can associate some of the things that we learn.”
