This absolute beachfront house less than 10km from a major Queensland city has priceless views, but has just sold for a fraction of the cost of a similar property down south.
On a 1012sq m block, the two bedroom, off-grid property is located at West Point on Magnetic Island, and recently sold for $495,000.

A similar style beachfront beach shack with two bedrooms at Palm Beach on the Gold Coast, which was on a 429sq m block, sold for a blistering $4.975 million last year, while a two bedroom cottage at Moffatt Beach on the Sunshine Coast, which wasn’t even on the beach, recently sold for $1.53 million.
Best of Magnetic Island Real Estate Alex Strens said the West Point property was bought by a couple from Springwood in Brisbane, where the median house price is pushing $700,000, up 27.6 per cent in 12 months.
Ms Strens said the property sold quickly after the price was dropped below $500,000.
“Psychologically, I think that made a huge difference,” she said.
“The price was attractive and the views are just spectacular.”
Ms Strens said the buyers were unperturbed by the off-grid property, which has solar, battery systems, a water tank and septic.
“They plan to use it as a holiday home for the next few years, and move up when work permits,” she said.
Facing Townsville, the property has views across the bay, with a hammock the perfect spot to watch the sunset.
“Everything is included: furniture, TV, fridge, microwave, washing machine, linen, crockery, cutlery, gas oven, ceiling fans, screens, outdoor setting, deck chairs, it even comes complete with fishing rods,” the listing said.
There are two bedrooms and outside there is a carport and a lockable shed.
Ms Strens said that while there were a few houses in the West Point area, which is accessed by a dirt road, the suburb was just 15 minutes from amenities on the island, and a short boat ride to the mainland.
“We are still getting a lot of interest (in Magnetic Island) from, well, everywhere,” she said.
“Traditionally, our buyers were often from Victoria, but we are getting a lot more from NSW, and a lot more from southeast Queensland as people sell to those moving from interstate.
“They are shifting out of places like the Sunshine Coast to here because it feels like the Sunshine Coast did 30 years ago.”
