I’m a huge fan of virtual reality, the metaverse will be absolutely fascinating and will provide us with a second life, a second identity.
In movies like Ready Player One we could get a glimpse of a possible reality. In series like Altered Carbon they even go one step further and transport consciousness into different bodies so you can live forever.
Will this be our reality? Do we want this?
In December 2019 I bought myself the VR headset from Oculus Quest. Even though I really loved some games like Superhot or Beat Saber other games still felt a bit stiff and weird to manage or the graphic design seemed a little bit off. The VR headset was quite heavy and in the beginning it was hard to play more than 30 min in a row. But it was very clear to me that this will be the future. Games are getting better and better and more and more people are spending more and more time in these virtual realities. I even went to a VR event with other people and it was fascinating. Everybody was at home or wherever but our presence was here in the virtual reality.
It will combine multiple elements of technology, including VR, augmented reality within a digital universe that can expand infinitely.
The more equipment you have the more real the experience will get.

Here are some things that I found very interesting:
AR and VR contact lenses & glasses
Smart contact lenses and glasses with built-in augmented reality (AR) have already been in the market for a few years now. These AR displays provide information without the need for other screens but currently there are no VR contact lenses on the market (yet). Price range is currently on average between 300 and 1,500 Euros.
VR glasses open up a whole new world and are already available. My personal favorites at the moment are the Oculus Quest 2 (about 450 Euros) because it is a console in itself that works without an external PC.
If I were looking to buy one I would probably go with the one from Tesla (about 11,000 Euros). It looks so cool but it is super expensive.
This all sounds so crazy and fascinating, I would like to jump into the metaverse today, but it’s not here yet. Mark Zuckerberg, the CEO of Meta (formerly Facebook) said it could still take 5 to 10 years before it can become mainstream. So maybe we can have a full metaverse experience superhero around 2026-31.
Life, liberty and pursuit of happiness is a well-known phrase in the United States Declaration of Independence.
Let’s have a look if it applies to the Metaverse with our knowledge today.
We will be the 100 % owner of our property (bitcoin, NFTs). We will be able to decide what we want and live a second life in virtual reality. These three parameters are the foundation of a happy life.
Liberty is our identity that we can choose freely in the Metaverse.
Bitcoin gives us control over property.
Tlyer Winklevoss, the founder of Winklevoss Capital Management and Gemini cryptocurrency exchange tweeted in June this year the following:
Bitcoin is decoupling of money and state.
Crypto is the decoupling of money and banks.
DeFi is the coupling of finance and Wall Street.
NFTs are the decoupling of art and the establishment.
Of course he has to be a fan of cryptocurrency because he is the founder of one of the largest crypto exchanges, gemini, but I think he is right and if this is the case the Metaverse could make us a little bit happier at least, or what do you think?
What could go wrong, everything sounds pretty good to me.
Elon Musk tweeted this pictures after Mark Zuckerberg announced the new updates of Facebook, now called META.
I guess we will all find out soon enough. Let’s meet up in 10 years in the online space and have a big cyber party. See you then. #elljoworld
