The Gimmicks – New Solana NFT Animated Series Launched by Mila Kunis

Date:

The Gimmicks is a new Solana NFT animated wrestling series founded by the animation studio Toonstar in collaboration with Six Wall, the production house of American Actress Mila Kunis. In a press conference following the announcement, Toonstar CEO John Attanasio described the Mila Kunis-backed show as “South Park meets WWE, but interactive and greasier.” The Gimmicks is an animated web series about retired professional wrestlers striving to recapture or return their glory days in the ring, according to Toonstar, a Web3 animation studio. Solana NFTs will be used in the new animated series, which will have a “choose your own adventure” mode that allows fans to vote on every episode’s storyline, characters, and plot. The Gimmicks were inspired after WWE fired professional wrestlers Luke “Doc” Gallows and Karl “Machine Gun” Anderson just before the COVID-19 outbreak began, according to Attanasio, the CEO of Toonstar.

Attanasio also stated that “They reached out about collaborating on some animated shorts for social media so that they could get their stories out and keep their creative juices flowing, and preserve their sanity.”

Toonstar started working on the concept for The Gimmicks, which involves Gallows and Anderson and other wrestlers FKA Enzo Amore and Rocky Romero as voice actors. The sitcom will be written by comedy writers Dave Ihlenfeld and David Wright, who have previously worked on Family Guy and The Simpsons. Last summer, Mila Kunis began her crypto journey when she used an NFT collection to crowdfund her animated series “Stoner Cats,” token-gating the episodes. The Ethereum-based cartoon project featured herself, her husband Ashton Kutcher, and Jane Fonda as voice performers and special appearances from Ethereum co-founder Vitalik Buterin.

At the time of the announcement, Kunis also stated that “I see the tech and community that comes with NFTs and Web3 allowing for the audience to directly communicate with and inform creators of what they like and what they don’t”.

Kunis stated that Tooner has the real potential to make fun content and Web3 series. She also stated that “The Gimmicks allows us to experiment with what it looks like to create in and around a community, taking the tech seriously but keeping the content fun.”

According to Lisa Sterbakov, a partner of Sixth Wall, the Gimmicks are “an iteration on the Stoner Cats [concept] with the ability for even more community engagement and audience interaction.”
