The Callisto Protocol and The Expanse: A Telltale Series will be joining the lineup of the opening night live show of Gamescom 2022.
Geoff Keighley recently revealed 2 more games that will be joining the Opening Night Live show of Gamescom 2022. First, it’s The Callisto Protocol, the survival-horror title directed by Dead Space creator Glen Schofield. Plenty of footage has already been shown off for The Calisto Protocol, but Keighley states this new demo is a “step beyond” what has previously been shown. On the other hand, we will be seeing in-game footage of The Expanse: A Telltale Series for the first time. The latter is a choose-your-own-adventure title based on the sci-fi television show of the same name.
Gamescom is one of the world’s largest in-person gaming events of the year, and it allows the press as well as fans to get their hands on games still in development. The Opening Night Live show of Gamescom 2022 will take place this August 23, and will be available to watch worldwide here. It starts at 2PM ET (11AM PT) and will last approximately two hours. Other games confirmed for the showcase include Sonic Frontiers and Hogwarts Legacy.
The Callisto Protocol is touted as a spiritual successor to Dead Space. Striking Distance Studios, the team behind it, largely due to the presence of Schofield on the team. The Calisto Protocol is also a dark and gritty survival-horror title set in space, though here it’s specifically on Callisto, one of Jupiter’s many moons.
The Expanse: A Telltale Series, is, unsurprisingly, being developed by Telltale Games, the team responsible for the acclaimed The Walking Dead, and The Wolf Among Us games. This may be confusing for some, as this studio did shut down back in 2018, following reports of crunch, mismanagement, and severe financial hardships. However, the trademarked brand was purchased not long after, and the studio was opened anew, if only in name. It’s currently unclear just how much of the old Telltale DNA this new studio has, or if it can reach its predecessor’s height, but a trailer for The Wolf Among Us 2 back in February excited fans greatly.
