‘Champagne House’ at 45 Aqua St, Newport, is for sale.

RICK Williams and his partner, Joshua Gelhaar, have spared no expense in creating their first dream project on the water in the unassuming suburb of Newport.

The couple spent months carefully planning the layout of ‘Champagne House’ to make sure it was the perfect house for entertaining in the seaside hub, 30km north of Brisbane’s CBD.

They bought the waterfront block of land at 45 Aqua Street in 2019 and spent Covid designing and building the home, while watching values rise in the suburb.

House prices in Newport rose 3.4 per cent in 2022, according to new data from PropTrack — managing to withstand the impact of eight successive interest rate rises unlike many other Brisbane suburbs.

Newport has a strong community feel and is starting to attract increasing interest from buyers who can see the value in living on the water without the price tag of an inner Brisbane riverside suburb.

Mr Williams said Covid put Newport on the map and they had not expected to sell so quickly, but were keen to move on to their next project.

He said it was a pleasure to come home from work and watch kayaks, paddle boards and boats in their backyard and have the ability to jump on a jetski or boat and head out to Moreton Bay for a day trip.

Newport has become a thriving community by the water, with the Dolphins NRL team creating a buzz and the new Newport Marketplace offering medical, beauty, restaurant, and supermarket offerings.
