The Best New Games for Android This Week – Catalyst Black, Dragon Quest Builders and More

Date:

Come on now, it can’t be Saturday again already, can it? It can, because that’s how the passage of time works. And that means that it’s time for us to write up a list of the very best games that were released for Android this week.

It’s been a pretty good week as well, with some brilliant premium releases and some pretty decent free to play additions to the Play Store as well. Really, there’s something for everyone. Or at least something for five people.

If you’ve got your own favorite new game that came out this week, let us know in the comments. You can click on the names of the games below to download them and unless otherwise noted they’re premium.

A big anime mixture of an MMO and and ARPG. There are shades of Genshin Impact here, but a good deal more whimsy. Because everyone loves them some whimsy, right? Pick a character, make some friends and go on an adventure through a digital fantasy world. This one’s free with IAP.

A crunching, old-school side-scrolling brawler that captures the feel of the classic Mega Drive games while layering on some more modern sensibilities. There’s plenty of violence, characters to collect and some gorgeous graphics to stare at.

A point-and-click adventure that wears its retro stylings proudly on its hand-drawn sleeves. It’s set on an island infused with voodoo traditions and it’s packed full of puzzles to solve and characters to meet. It looks lovely and while it’s a bit on the pricey side if you’re a fan of the likes of Monkey Island you’re going to lap it up.

A surprise release of the original Dragon Quest Builders for Android. It’s sort of a mix between Minecraft and a regular Dragon Quest game, with block-building and monster fighting and loads of other stuff going on. It’s the sort of game you’re going to lose hours to if you’re not careful. So don’t be careful.

A fast-paced action shooter from the developer behind Vainglory. There are a few wisps of MOBA in the game’s DNA, but you’re going to be blasting your foes to smithereens in a much more hands-on manner. Forge a team, build up your gear, generally have a lovely old time. This one’s free with IAP as well.
