Teenagers arrested after 700 cannabis plants found in police raids

Two teenage boys were arrested as police uncovered a cannabis farm inside a Birkdale house.

The youths, aged 15 and 17, were arrested on suspicion of production of cannabis after officers found 700 plants under specialist lighting and ventilation systems.

Police raided the home on Weld Road last Thursday, seizing the farm and taking the pair into custody. On the same day, a separate warrant was carried out at an address on Bull Cop, Formby, where Class A drugs, cash and a money counter were recovered.

A 27-year-old man and a 23-year-old woman were arrested on suspicion of possession with intent to supply and have since been released under investigation.

Inspector Dave Uren said: “[These] seizures have thankfully prevented a significant amount of drugs from reaching our streets and I hope this serves as a stark warning that we will continue to pursue anyone involved in the production or supply of drugs.

“Cannabis farms often create a fire and flood risk, and any drug dealing can attract serious violence as dealers use force to try to keep their illicit business going.
