Engineers and scientists from every discipline linked to semiconductors have been struggling for years to find good research papers about trends and topics they care about, and the situation is only getting worse as the technology becomes more complex and the supply chain becomes more diverse and distributed.
There are a slew of new issues in manufacturing, packaging, and design, and there are more vertical markets using advanced technology than at anytime in the past. But any search is likely to be an exercise in frustration for a number of reasons:
- Search results do not always distinguish between papers that were written as much as two decades ago, and those that are current. Often that requires scrolling through the paper to the end to see check the dates of the most recent citations, which is time-consuming.
- Keywords listed for the papers are often so vague that search often produces irrelevant results.
- There is no organization by subject matter except by conferences, which often requires engineers and scientists to scroll through multiple conference repositories to find what they’re looking for because no single conference addresses everything.
At Semiconductor Engineering, we share those frustrations, so we decided to do something about it. We’ve been collecting and organizing technical paper abstracts by subject area in chronological order, with links to the site where those papers can be found. Where possible, we have linked to the free versions. In other cases, the links are tied to the relevant repository, where many organizations and individuals have access rights.

There’s a drop-down menu of 16 different categories, and papers that are relevant to more than one category are duplicated in the other related ones. So far, we’ve added several hundred of the most recent papers, and we are continuing to add dozens each week.
