Tech-enabled healthcare company Kepro is laying off nearly 100 NC workers

Date:

CARY – A provider of technology-enabled services in the healthcare sector is laying off nearly 100 workers in North Carolina.

Kepro, which partners with government sponsored healthcare programs as well as private healthcare payers, filed a notice with the North Carolina Department of Commerce on Thursday indicating the company’s workforce reduction.

According to the letter, which was obtained by WRAL TechWire, the company is downsizing as a result of a reduction of “scope and capacity” in a contract it holds with the State of North Carolina.

“Kepro has received notice from the State of North Carolina Department of Health indicating their intent to reduce the scope and capacity of the NC COVID Care Coordination contract,” the letter reads.  “Accordingly, Kepro will be downsizing the servicing that this contract provides.”

But not all of the 97 employees projected by the company to be impacted by this downsizing are based in the Triangle, as the letter notes that its employees “work remotely throughout the state” and are managed from the company’s Cary offices along Centre Green Way.

Employee layoffs will occur between November 28 and December 31, according to the letter, which was signed by Sherrie Crittle, the company’s chief human resources officer.

The letter was sent by the company according to the Worker Adjustment and Retraining Notification Act, which requires large employers with 100 or more workers to give at least 60 days’ advance notice of a plant closing or mass layoff.

The North Carolina Department of Commerce reports on these notices, under the WARN Act. As of today, there have been 3,180 North Carolina workers affected by 50 layoffs disclosed under the WARN Act, according to the report.

Earlier this month, Pink Energy announced it would lay off 500 workers in North Carolina and filed a notice with the Department of Commerce that indicated it had not given workers advance notice of the layoffs.

And Coats American disclosed it would lay off 51 workers in Hendersonville.  WRAL TechWire reports on layoffs in a weekly report, the WRAL TechWire Layoff Watch, each Tuesday.
