Actor Storm Reid has revealed on Twitter that they have joined the cast of HBO’s The Last of Us and will be playing the character Riley Abel. I got some NEWS 🚨 Beyond excited to join the cast of #TheLastOfUs as Riley on @HBO. Let’s get to work. 🎬 2022 looking bright already 🕺🏽 pic.twitter.com/A1O9tg4Lna — Storm Reid (@stormreid) January 14, 2022 Storm has previously worked on the films 12 Years a Slave, The Invisible Man, The Suicide Squad, and also appeared in the music video for Family Feud by Jay-Z and Beyoncé. She is currently starring the hit HBO show Euphoria. If you are not familiar of the character of Riley Abel then perhaps that’s because she only appeared in The Last of Us: Left Behind DLC, although she is mentioned in the main game. She also appeared in The Last of Us: American Dreams, a comic series published by Dark Horse and written by The Last of Us lead writer Neil Druckmann. Riley has a rather dark back story; her father gets infected by the Cordyceps brain infection and then he precedes to rip her mother to shreds. Riley has to kill her father to save herself and ends up in a school for orphans. She later meets up with Ellie and they share their first kiss together. According the official HBO website for the show Storm is a guest star rather than a main cast member so she won’t be in every episode. That could indicate she only shows up in the first few episodes when Ellie and Joel are safe in the Quarantine Zone, or it could indicate she gets eaten alive by a walking fungus. Yum. The series will guest star Nico Parker (The Third Day) as Sarah, Joel’s 14-year old daughter, I wouldn’t give her much chance of surviving past the first ten minutes of episode one, along with Murray Bartlett (The White Lotus) and Nick Offerman (Parks and Recreation) as Frank and Bill, the two friends of Joel who are met on the journey. Kantemir Balagov will be directing The Last of Us’ HBO pilot. His may not be a familiar name but he has had some success with his other projects. They include the Russian movie Beanpol, set in Leningrad during the year 1945. The city is in ruins and amongst it two women try to find their way, an near enough apocalyptic scenario and the aftermath of it and thematically similar in some ways to The Last of Us.
