DF Direct talks God of War PC, PS4 production, Final Fantasy 7 Remake PC patch

Before we move on to discussing the latest gaming and technology news, there's something very important I need to share with you: Quake Remastered has reignited my love for multiplayer gaming. Maybe it's simply nostalgia. Back in the mid-90s, myself and my colleagues at EMAP magazines used to play the game religiously via a mini-LAN set-up in the office. When we moved to offices in Docklands, the whole office was networked up, making more massive multiplayer games a viable lunchtime pursuit. Last month, the same personalities came back together to replay the game once again, starting with the classic levels. It holds up, it genuinely does. If you're jaded by today's massive multiplayer shooters, battle royales, season passes and progression systems, round up some friends and get together for some Quake Remastered. It supports cross-play and all systems - even Switch - support keyboard and mouse. It's amazing: the simplicity, the purity and the genius-level design will blow you away.

Less revelatory but still important are some of the key discussion topics raised by last week's news, kicking off with news that Sony is continuing to produce PlayStation 4 when Microsoft has completely discontinued all flavours of Xbox One. The news was framed by the idea that Sony can't physically supply enough PS5s, meaning that PS4 production was ramped up to the fill the gap. It is true that Sony has previously said that its primary objective is to transition from one generation to the next as quickly as possible, but the fact is that there's always an extended transition period between console generations. For example, PlayStation 4 launched in 2013 but its predecessor only ceased production in 2017.

Persona 4 Arena Ultimax fight trailer shows off new gameplay

Sega and Atlus have debuted a new trailer for their upcoming re-release of Persona 4 Arena Ultimax. This latest footage gives us a glimpse at how the characters and fighting gameplay have been updated for new platforms, ahead of its March 17, 2022, release date. Originally hitting Japanese arcades in 2013, it would later arrive on PS3 and Xbox 360. Developed by Arc System Works, the team behind countless fighting games such as Dragon Ball FighterZ, Blazblue, and Granblue Fantasy Versus, the Persona spin-off is now heading to Nintendo Switch, PS4, and PC (via Steam). Sega hasn’t announced whether it will eventually make its way onto Xbox platforms. Here’s more info on this newest Persona game release. Persona 4 Arena Ultimax Key Features Ultimax Version – Includes all previously released Persona 4 Arena Ultimax content, including the original Persona 4 Arena story A Deep Roster of Playable Characters – Persona 3 fan-favorites and “Shadow” versions offer a range of fighting styles to choose from Dual audio – Choose between Japanese and English VO Persona 4 Arena Ultimax Playable Characters Aigis Akihiko Sanada Chie Satonaka Elizabethd Junpei Iori Kanji Tatsumi Ken Amada & Koromarua Labrys Margaretabd Marieabd Mitsuru Kirijo Naoto Shirogane Rise Kujikawaa Shadow Labrys (Asterius)d Sho Minazukicd Teddie Tohru Adachiabd Yosuke Hanamura Yu Narukami Yukari Takeba Yukiko Amagi The Persona series is no stranger to spin-offs, including rhythm action game Persona 4: Dancing All Night, and last year’s Persona 5 Strikers. Is Shin Megami Tensei better than Persona? Persona 5 is the most recent mainline entry in the popular JRPG series, which is itself a branch of the wider Shin Megami Tensei franchise. Persona 5 Royal then followed, introducing new content and some interesting gameplay reviews. Fans are keen to see what Atlus has planned for Persona. In the meantime, there’s been a renewed effort to revitalise older games in the series, including the superb Persona 4 Golden which recently released on PC. With some of those earlier games hard to source in 2022, is there a chance we’ll see Atlus create a compilation?

Harry Potter Game Hogwarts Legacy Allegedly in Trouble on PS5, PS4

Could be delayed until 2023.

It’s been well over a year since we last heard word of Harry Potter-themed open world RPG Hogwarts Legacy, but developer Avalanche Software had promised updates in 2022. That information could end up being a delay, as word has it the title has been stupefied behind-the-scenes. Ex-IGN scribe and Sacred Symbols host Colin Moriarty revealed on his latest PlayStation podcast that the “game isn't coming out this year” and “it's in some sort of trouble”.

Moriarty is obviously well-connected, but it’s always worth treating rumours like this with an ounce of scepticism. Nevertheless, it’s not the hardest story to believe: the long-awaited title was originally slated to release in 2021, before it disappeared for the entire year. As mentioned above, the developer did promise to remove the release’s invisibility cloak over the coming months, but even if it is ready to show a little more, that doesn’t necessarily dispel this report.

Dying Light 2 Trophies Revealed, Find Collectibles and Max Stats

Just beware of spoilers.

Dying Light 2 is just a few weeks away from its PlayStation 5 and PS4 launch, meaning it's now time for us all to work out how we're going to unlock its Platinum Trophy. The complete list of digital gongs is now available for viewing over on Exophase, but we advise exercising some caution: the first handful of Trophies contain spoilers. We won't be covering them in this article, but feel free to click through and check those out.

As well as completing the story (you don't need to get any specific endings), there are trinkets for finding all collectibles and activating all windmills, metro stations, and opening every airdrop. Then you'll need to focus on your stats, fully upgrading your parkour and combat proficiencies as well as getting maximum health and stamina. There are two Trophies related to co-op play, but don't worry, they have very simple requirements: just join a co-op session and then kill 100 enemies with at least two other players present.

Dying Light 2 will have 5 years of post launch content but cross play will not be available at launch

Techland have revealed further details for Dying Light 2: Beyond Human, most notably that game will not have cross play when it launches next month. In the video chat on Twitch the Lead Game designer for Dying Light 2: Beyond Human, Tymon Smektala, was asked if the game would launch with cross play. “No, not at this moment, it won’t be available,” was his simple answer. He did not reveal if or when it would be added to the game. Techland have also stated the game will be supported with “at least” five years worth of post launch content. Want to know what will happen AFTER the premiere? We guarantee to expand the world of Dying Light 2 Stay Human for at least 5 years post launch with new stories, locations, in-game events and all the fun stuff you love!#DyingLight2 #StayHuman pic.twitter.com/SgaNynkrzI — Dying Light (@DyingLightGame) January 14, 2022 That’s a lot of content but Techland have not clarified which platforms will get the content. The PC version of Dying Light has been very well supported but the console versions have missed out on updates in the past. The game is launching on PS4 and Xbox One, both of which will be very much out of production in five years time. Techland have also offered up the first footage of the game running on PS4 and Xbox One but it’s rather short and also compressed in to a smaller frame within the YouTube video. Obviously the want to show the game running at it’s best so previous footage has been from the PC or next-gen consoles. Techland promise that “more comparisons are coming later this month”, hopefully these will assure gamers who have been burnt by the likes of Cyberpunk 2077 and The Grand Theft Auto Trilogy: Definitive Edition hiding that the fact that the last gen versions of the games ran terribly. Techland recently tweeted that the game would take 500 hours to complete. They have now revised the timings again and are saying that to finish the just the main story, which is what most players are interested in, will take 20 hours. “We wanted to clarify our recent communication about the amount of hours required to complete the game. Dying Light 2: Stay Human is designed for players with different gameplay styles and preferences to explore the world how they see fit,” they tweeted. Source: Twitch
