In the process they grabbed the top slot in the Steam Global Charts. That figure is big news for a few reasons, not least of which is that this success came alongside The Ascent’s release into Xbox Game Pass on day one. It’s available across Xbox Series X|S, Xbox One and PC through Game Pass, but a lot of gamers have still flocked to buy the game outright. Off the back of this, Curve Digital has described themselves as a “revitalised publisher”, in part from how they’ve adapted their business and crafted their PR campaign to handle the launch. Recognising that they had an eye-catching game, and that Cyberpunk is all kinds of in right now, they focusses on community engagement and reaching streamers to build hype. Over 1700 streamers generated 10 million views, and 90% of global “Tier One” publications covered the game with reviews. Have you been following Battlefield 2042 at all? People are mad – like, really, really mad. A lot of it is valid, to be fair – while we thought the first-person shooter was okay, we noted in our review that it would need a lot of work to reach its full potential. Now, with developer DICE going quiet over the holidays, fan frustration is bubbling over.

That’s led to the moderators of the game’s subreddit posting an ultimatum: turn down the toxicity or the page will be closed. Things bubbled over recently when global communications bigwig Andy McNamara tweeted that the team had taken a Christmas break and was just getting back to work. “Love you guys but these expectations are brutal,” he said. “The things you want take time to scope, design, and execute.”

Late last year, GTA Online received an enormous update, adding a new business and multiple mission types – including story content, featuring Dr Dre – to the game. In the meantime, Red Dead Online has been largely left abandoned. While Rockstar has added various new job types to the Western sandbox over the years, as well as a pretty cool co-op survival mode, its support has waned in favour of Los Santos.

Frustration among fans has boiled over this week, as the developer welcomed the New Year with a bunch of bonuses for existing game types and modes. It’s prompted some to start the social media hashtag #SaveRedDeadOnline. “Two years of this nonsense from Rockstar now,” one writer at Rockstar Intel said. “They simply don’t care anymore, the care and love for Red Dead Redemption 2 is long gone.”

Luckily, the weekly music jams in Dreams are a familiar home. And Andrewww has been continuing through the main story of Days Gone, trying to avoid the open world fatigue from too many side quests.
