One of the worst hacks against the Solana blockchain happened on Wednesday when a hacker managed to transfer 80,000 ether (ETH), over $214 million at the moment of writing, out of the Solana system and into the Ethereum blockchain through the Wormhole bridge – a service providing the ability to transfer funds between the different […]
As part of Nintendo's latest earnings release, the company updated its list of the best-selling Nintendo Switch games of all time, and Mario Kart 8 is still on top by a good margin.
Mario Kart 8 Deluxe has now sold 43.35 million units globally as of December 32, 2021. That's a massive number, even ahead of Red Dead Redemption 2 (39 million sold).
Rounding out the top five on Nintendo Switch in terms of sales are Animal Crossing: New Horizons (37.62 million), Super Smash Bros. Ultimate (27.4 million), The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild (25.8 million), and Pokemon Sword/Shield (23.9 million). Also of note, Pokemon Brilliant Diamond and Shining Pearl combined to sell 13.97 million units since they launched in November 2019, instantly propelling the games to No. 9 on the all-time highest-seller list for Switch games.
You can see the full top 10 list below, as shared by Nintendo. The numbers include games sold within bundles, as well as digital sales.
Nintendo also confirmed that Pokemon Legends Arceus sold 1.425 million copies in its first week, which is the biggest first-week for any Switch game in history except for Animal Crossing: New Horizons (1.881 million in first week).
Gearbox Software has completed work on Tiny Tina's Wonderlands, its upcoming Borderlands spin-off that stars the fan-favorite explosives expert voiced by Ashly Burch. While the game is complete, there'll still be some fine-tuning to do ahead of its March 25 release, which will likely include the usual updates and optimizations.
In a separate tweet, Wonderlands creative director Matt Cox commented on the challenge of developing the game in the current pandemic era of the world.
"Shipping games is hard, and significantly harder during a pandemic. I am overwhelmingly proud of every part of our Tiny Tina's Wonderlands teams," Cox said. "We dug deep and poured our hearts into something special. I love our team, and love our fans. March 25th is so close!"
WE ARE GOLD! Shipping games is hard, and significantly harder during a pandemic. I am overwhelmingly proud of every part of our Tiny Tina's Wonderlands teams. Similar to the Borderlands series, Wonderlands will cast you as one of several classes---Brr-Zerker, Clawbringer, Graveborn, Spellshot, Spore Warden, or Stabbomancer--who all wield unique abilities.
Wonderlands also features a multi-class system that allows for any of those two roles to be combined, which should make for some interesting character builds. Guns are of course an option for dealing with all manner of assorted fantasy enemies when action skills and various other passive abilities aren't enough.
For an idea of just how Gearbox handles the fantasy genre, you can check out Tiny Tina's Assault on Dragonkeep for PC, PlayStation, and Xbox. The Borderlands 2 DLC is now a standalone adventure, and if your PS Plus subscription is up to date, you can add it to your PlayStation library as part of February's offerings through the online service.
While many companies in the gaming space are shifting away from NFTs, GameStop is pushing further into the space with its latest big deal. The company on Thursday announced a partnership with Australian crypto company Immutable to create a $100 million fund in Immutable's IMX tokens.
GameStop and Immutable will use these funds to create grants to give to creators of NFT content and technology. The retailer also mentioned that Immutable will partner with GameStop on its own NFT marketplace that should launch later in 2022.
Additionally, Immutable will give GameStop up to $150 million worth of IMX tokens if the company is able to reach "certain milestones."
Immutable X bills itself as the first layer-2 for NFTs on Ethereum. "Experience zero gas fees, instant trades, and carbon neutral NFTs for marketplaces, games, and applications without compromise," the company says. Immutable is also the developer of the digital card game Gods Unchained, which uses the "play-to-earn" model whereby players can sell their digital goods.
As the Metaverse gains momentum at the start of 2022, more NFTs like IggyBoy are incorporating more utility and benefits into their NFT. There are only 2500 whitelist spots available.
