Hitachi’s Business Situation in Ukraine and Russia
In Ukraine, there are engineering hubs of GlobalLogic, a U.S. subsidiary. As part of its strategy to put top priority on the safety of employees and their families, GlobalLogic has been taking actions based on Business Continuity Plan (BCP) including evacuation to safer location in Ukraine and across borders to other countries. While there has been some interruption of services during employee transition, the company has been able to resume client projects and is working to get operations back to normal status. Due to the nature of the software engineering work, employees are able to perform their duties from remote locations as they were doing because of the pandemic and there has not been a significant impact on GlobalLogic's operation at this moment.
Regarding business in Russia, Hitachi Group is suspending exports to Russia and pausing all manufacturing activities within the country for the time being, with the exception of products, services and support for electrical power equipment that are indispensable to the daily lives of people.
The revenues in the Russian market accounts for approx. 0.5% of Hitachi's consolidated revenues forecast for the fiscal year ending March 2022, 10 trillion yen, and more than a half of this is from revenues of construction machinery. SCSK and NEC Strengthen Collaboration to Accelerate Customers’ DX and Business Growth
Background and purpose of establishing a new company
Due to the global COVID-19 pandemic and the frequent occurrence of natural disasters, there is a need for the utilization of secure and safe data centers to further raise awareness of business continuity, and to ensure the safety of sensitive information such as personal information. Furthermore, due to the shift to remote work and the acceleration of digital transformation (DX), there is a growing need for using richly functional and highly flexible cloud services.
SCSK and NEC will jointly operate a data center in Inzai City, Chiba Prefecture, Japan, scheduled for completion in April 2022, to accelerate DX for customers, and to attract ecosystem partners, including cloud providers. This will provide customers with significant benefits in terms of convenience and confidentiality in connecting to ecosystem partners when using jointly operated data centers.
Ecosystem partners will also install network connectivity points to jointly operated data centers in the future, giving both companies' customers the opportunity to leverage the services of the ecosystem partners.

Fujitsu Leverages World’s Fastest Supercomputer and AI Tech in Joint Field Trial for Safe and Efficient Tsunami Evacuations in Kawasaki City

During this field trial, participants from the surrounding community will be notified about the arrival time and the flooding height of a predicted tsunami through a special smartphone application developed by Fujitsu. The exercise aims to identify the most effective ways to use the technology to support local communities in sharing information amongst residents and avoid cases of people being left behind during evacuations.
This project represents the latest milestone in an ongoing initiative between the parties. As part of a framework agreement signed between Kawasaki City and Fujitsu in 2014 to promote the creation of sustainable communities(3), the four parties have been engaging in R&D activities as part of the "Joint Project Aiming for Tsunami Disaster Risk Reduction Using ICT in the Kawasaki Coastal Area" since 2017. Verifying the effectiveness of information sharing amongst field trial participants via the app, the parties aim to further promote the practical use of disaster risk mitigation methodologies that leverage the capabilities of AI, high performance computing (HPC), and communications technologies for tsunami flooding forecasts, ultimately contributing to the realization of a safer society.
Background
Recent years have witnessed the development of several different technologies for real time tsunami flooding forecasts that make use of the capabilities of high-speed supercomputers and AI. Barriers to the practical deployment of such technologies remain, however, including how to share relevant information in an inclusive yet effective manner to the public, taking into account individual differences of users and varying levels of digital literacy.
The four parties aim to address some of these challenges by conducting a field trial to test the technology with actual residents of the community in circumstances that replicate the uncertainty of an actual disaster, including the possibility that the AI forecast information itself isn't 100% certain.
Outline of the field trial
Date: March 12, 2022 (Saturday) 8: 15 to 11: 15 JST (held at the same time as the comprehensive disaster prevention drills in Kawasaki Ward)
Place: Kawasaki Municipal Kawanakajima Junior High School and surrounding area (Kawasaki Ward, Kawasaki City)
Participants: local residents and project members
Overview: Field trial to verify the effectiveness of evacuation using AI tsunami flooding forecast data(4)-this data will be delivered to a dedicated app developed by Fujitsu, which residents and organizers will refer to in real time during a simulated evacuation. The field trial will be conducted under the supervision and guidance of Prof. Fumihiko Imamura, Director of the International Research Institute of Disaster Science at Tohoku University and Prof. Takashi Furumura at the Earthquake Research Institute at the University of Tokyo.
Several participants briefed in advance of the field trial (including the possibility that AI forecast information isn't 100% certain) will act as disaster information leaders and receive detailed information including the predicted arrival time and flooding height of the tsunami. Other participants will receive a text message on the app indicating that AI has forecast flooding for their location.
When evacuating, disaster information leaders can check the current location of participants in the same community and alert those who are behind in evacuating by using the app's messaging function.
The field trial will be followed by an online disaster prevention course, in which evacuation actions of the participants will be reviewed.
About the app
The app has two display modes. The first one is a detailed mode, in which AI-generated tsunami flooding forecast data is displayed on a map in different colors corresponding to the arrival time and the flooding height of the incoming tsunami. The second mode is a simple display that only shows a text message warning users in a certain area about the predicted tsunami flooding. The app also includes a messaging function that allows users to check the location of other community members on a map and help one another to communicate and gather safely during the evacuation. Users can further post and share information on points along evacuation routes that are assumed to be damaged and difficult to pass (a function which has been validated in prior field trials(5)) and also share real-time information about the number of people who have successfully evacuated and gathered at evacuation centers.
Future Plans
Based on the feedback from the participants of the field trial, the four parties will further investigate methods to transmit and use AI disaster forecasting to realize safer and more efficient community-based evacuation and promote the use and practical application of AI to support disaster mitigation measures and contribute to the realization of safer local communities.

Chronic headache disorders, which include migraine, tension, and other chronic headache types, have a significant impact on daily life and work productivity. To address this problem, Fujitsu has developed and implemented training programs for employees globally in the workplace to promote awareness and treatment of headache disorders, as well as prevention programs for employees suffering from such disorders. Fujitsu's efforts were evaluated by the International Headache Society as a model case of corporate measures to support employees living with headache disorders.
As a leader in migraine workplace awareness, education, and employee support programs, Fujitsu will further promote the dissemination of information related to health measures including headache countermeasures not only for employees, but also to their families, customers, and business partners. Background
In the workplace, chronic headache disorders tend to be trivialized due to a common lack of understanding. As a result, many employees that suffer from these disorders continue to work while enduring painful headaches and other severe symptoms, leading to a decline in productivity and quality of life (QOL).
In June 2018, Fujitsu conducted an in-house survey among Fujitsu employees in cooperation with International Headache Society, the World Health Organization (WHO), and the Japan Headache Society. The survey was designed to evaluate the impacts of chronic headache disorders on their work. Of the 2,500 people surveyed, 85% had experienced headache disorders. Of those who experienced headache disorders, 84% had never been treated. In addition, it was found that the economic loss to Fujitsu due to headache disorder-related sick leave and lower performance was approx. 900 USD per year per chronic headache disorder-affected employee. The cost was even higher for those affected by migraine (approx. 2,300 USD). The total cost was approx. 197 million USD per year for all employees, representing approximately 1% of the total annual salary paid to all employees. It was also revealed that health related QOL scores(2) of employees with chronic headache disorders were lower than the national standard for Japan. This demonstrates that headache disorders have a significant impact on daily life and work productivity. To address this issue, Fujitsu launched the "FUJITSU Headache Project" as a headache disorder prevention program that is now globally available to all employees.
Outline of the "FUJITSU Headache Project"
Based on the results of a joint study conducted in 2018 (Fujitsu employee survey on the degree of impact of chronic headache disorders on work), Fujitsu in fiscal year 2019 developed the FUJITSU Headache Project in cooperation with IHS-GPAC and the Japanese Headache Society. Utilizing e-Learning programs to help Fujitsu Group employees in Japan acquire correct knowledge about headache disorders, Fujitsu held video seminars for headache patients, online headache consultations with specialists, and headache exercises. Through these initiatives to help employees with headache disorders, Fujitsu attempts to improve QOL and boost work productivity, and aims to create a workplace where people suffering from headache disorders can work comfortably and with peace of mind.

To address the challenge of increasing power consumption at data centers in today's digital society, companies participating in this project will work to develop innovative solutions to realize greater energy efficiency, larger capacity, and lower latency in data centers to contribute to the achievement of a carbon-neutral society. Within this project, Fujitsu will lead the development of low-power consumption CPUs and photonics smart NIC optimized for next-generation green data centers. Additionally, Fujitsu Optical Components will work with Fujitsu to develop photonics smart NIC.

As society makes a digital shift, demand for energy and sustainable solutions mounts facing growing energy demands from the ever-increasing needs of data centers, Japan's NEDO has launched an ambitious initiative that aims to achieve energy savings of 40% or more in datacenters domestically by 2030.
Development of low-power consumption CPUs and photonics smart NIC (The Fujitsu Group)
1. Low-power consumption CPUs
Fujitsu designs its own microarchitecture which is a key factor for CPU performance and power efficiency. This technology made it possible for the supercomputer Fugaku to achieve the world's highest levels of performance and energy efficiency. Fujitsu will further refine this technology and develop a low-power consumption CPU that can be used in next-generation green data centers.
2. Photonics smart NIC
Fujitsu and Fujitsu Optical Components will develop a photonics smart NIC that reduces network power consumption in data centers by applying optical transmission technology that achieves greater efficiency in size and energy consumption, as well as greater data capacity, and by refining hardware and software technologies cultivated through the development of leading-edge optical transmission devices.

5G networks are expected to provide end-users with various types of services built on enhanced Mobile Broadband (eMBB), Massive Machine Type Communications (mMTC) and Ultra-Reliable Low Latency Communications (URLLC). While a legacy billing model, such as flat-rate or usage-based billing, may fit for eMMB services, it will become inadequate as mMTC and URLLC services come to life in the coming years. For example, a Quality of Service model would be more suitable for a URLLC, with quality guarantees with discounts based on Service Level Agreements. mMTC billings, on the other hand, should be based on the number of concurrent connections for IoT devices, such as connected home appliances.
