Tiny Tina’s Wonderlands Has Gone Gold

Gearbox Software has completed work on Tiny Tina's Wonderlands, its upcoming Borderlands spin-off that stars the fan-favorite explosives expert voiced by Ashly Burch. While the game is complete, there'll still be some fine-tuning to do ahead of its March 25 release, which will likely include the usual updates and optimizations.

In a separate tweet, Wonderlands creative director Matt Cox commented on the challenge of developing the game in the current pandemic era of the world.

"Shipping games is hard, and significantly harder during a pandemic. I am overwhelmingly proud of every part of our Tiny Tina's Wonderlands teams," Cox said. "We dug deep and poured our hearts into something special. I love our team, and love our fans. March 25th is so close!"

Similar to the Borderlands series, Wonderlands will cast you as one of several classes---Brr-Zerker, Clawbringer, Graveborn, Spellshot, Spore Warden, or Stabbomancer--who all wield unique abilities.

Wonderlands also features a multi-class system that allows for any of those two roles to be combined, which should make for some interesting character builds. Guns are of course an option for dealing with all manner of assorted fantasy enemies when action skills and various other passive abilities aren't enough.

For an idea of just how Gearbox handles the fantasy genre, you can check out Tiny Tina's Assault on Dragonkeep for PC, PlayStation, and Xbox. The Borderlands 2 DLC is now a standalone adventure, and if your PS Plus subscription is up to date, you can add it to your PlayStation library as part of February's offerings through the online service.

Reaction: We Need to Talk About Tiny Tina on PS Plus

Dragon weep.

The reaction to PS Plus ebbs-and-flows depending on the lineup. For example, the vast majority of subscribers were pretty happy with Deep Rock Galactic, DIRT 5, and Persona 5 Strikers last month – all decent, recommended games. The response to February 2022’s PS Plus lineup, with UFC 4 and Planet Coaster as the headliners, has been less positive. But we really need to talk about Tiny Tina’s Assault on Dragon Keep.

We rarely ever comment on PS Plus because the lineups are usually subjective, and we think the service represents pretty good value for money on the whole. It’s not perfect, and can be improved – we’re hopeful the rumoured Project Spartacus will refine things and take the subscription to the next level. But we’re writing this article because we do think, on this occasion, Sony has genuinely missed the mark.

Take-Two CEO Namechecks Midnight Club, Despite a 13 Year Wait for a New Game

After announcing one of the biggest acquisitions in game industry history, Take-Two CEO Strauss Zelnick named his company's biggest franchises. It contained some expected names, and one outlier – Midnight Club, which hasn't seen a new release since October 2008.

Take Two purchasing Zynga for $12.7 billion

Take Two Interactive has announced it is purchasing mobile and online games developer Zynga. The deal will be worth $12.7 billion with Take Two purchasing all shares of Zynga at a price of $9.86 per share. This move means that Take Two Interactive will become one of the biggest game publishers within the mobile games market. The mobile games market has been identified by Take Two Interactive as the fastest growing sector in the games industry. Comments were released by Strauss Zelnick, Chairman and CEO of Take-Two, and Frank Gibeau, CEO of Zynga. “We are thrilled to announce our transformative transaction with Zynga, which significantly diversifies our business and establishes our leadership position in mobile, the fastest growing segment of the interactive entertainment industry,” said Strauss Zelnick, Chairman and CEO of Take-Two.“This strategic combination brings together our best-in-class console and PC franchises, with a market-leading, diversified mobile publishing platform that has a rich history of innovation and creativity. Zynga also has a highly talented and deeply experienced team, and we look forward to welcoming them into the Take-Two family in the coming months. As we combine our complementary businesses and operate at a much larger scale, we believe that we will deliver significant value to both sets of stockholders, including $100 million of annual cost synergies within the first two years post-closing and at least $500 million of annual Net Bookings opportunities over time.” “Combining Zynga’s expertise in mobile and next-generation platforms with Take-Two’s best-in-class capabilities and intellectual property will enable us to further advance our mission to connect the world through games while achieving significant growth and synergies together,” said Frank Gibeau, CEO of Zynga. “I am proud of our team’s hard work to deliver a strong finish to 2021, with one of the best performances in Zynga’s history. We are incredibly excited to have found a partner in Take-Two that shares our commitment to investing in our players, amplifying our creative culture, and generating more value for stockholders. With this transformative transaction, we begin a new journey which will allow us to create even better games, reach larger audiences and achieve significant growth as a leader in the next era of gaming.” The acquisition of Zynga by Take Two Interactive also means that mobile games based on Take Two’s IPs will be developed. As the parent company of Rockstar, 2K, and Private Division there are dozens of properties that could see a bigger presence on mobile. Grand Theft Auto would be an obvious choice as it is a huge earner for Take Two, along with more games based on WWE 2K and NBA 2K. There are also the Borderlands games along with XCOM and Civilization. It will take a little while before we start to see the products from this deal appearing. Source: Press Release
