Sun Country Airlines adds 7 new destinations including flights to Canada

The budget carrier, Sun Country Airlines, which is based in Minneapolis, Minnesota, has announced that it is planning to expand its route network to 6 new destinations in the United States. The low-cost carrier has also stated that it plans to launch a new service to Vancouver, Canada (YVR) from its base at Minneapolis–Saint Paul International Airport (MSP).

The airline stated that it plans to operate most of these routes sometime in the late spring of 2022. In terms of the six new U.S. services, Sun County Airlines stated that it plans to fly to six city destinations including; Burlington, Vermont (BTV), Buffalo, New York (BUF), Charleston, South Carolina (CHS), Jacksonville, Florida (JAX), Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania (PIT) and Spokane, Washington (GEG).

With this route expansion, it brings Sun Country’s total destination list to 80 cities across the United States, Canada, Central America, Mexico, and the Caribbean. Tickets for all seven destinations are currently available for purchase on the Sun Country website, where the airline is offering an initial discount on one-way fares to these destinations, which range from USD$69 to USD$99 per ticket.

Sun Country added that flights to Jacksonville and Charleston will begin in April 2022, while the rest of the remaining routes will be operational by June. Similar to other budget leisure carriers, such as Avelo Airlines, Sun Country will operate these routes on a twice-weekly basis, most likely on Thursdays and Sundays.

In addition to these new routes, Sun Country Airlines is also planning on bringing back services to New Orleans, Louisiana, Milwaukee, Wisconsin and Savannah, Georgia. All of these were destinations that were all previously dropped by the budget carrier due to the COVID-19 pandemic.

Sun County Airlines also stated that it is not planning on re-introducing its seasonal route services to Austin, Texas (AUS), Madison, Wisconsin (MSN) or Seattle, Washington (SEA) in the near future. Unfortunately, the airline has did not cite a reason as to why the carrier was dropping seasonal routes to these particular destinations.
