Game developer and publisher Square Enix will offer employees a work-from-home option permanently, the company announced Wednesday.

Rather than utilizing work from home solely as a means of preventing infections during the current pandemic, the Company will establish it as a permanent and core program among the working styles it accommodates,” reads the announcement. “In so doing, the Company hopes not only to create a flexible and diverse working environment, but also to further bolster productivity and help employees achieve the optimal work-life balance.”

Square Enix says this program, officially available starting Dec. 1, will allow it to hire more diverse human resources and empower employees to be more creative. A company survey found 80% of employees had a positive view of work from home in June, and Square Enix expects around that many of its employees will spend the majority of their work weeks at home in December.

Employees will be able to shift from working from home to working in the office and back on a monthly basis.

Square Enix is the latest major company to move to permanent work-from-home, following a trend that includes international giants such as Microsoft.

“By adopting a new style of working for a new world, the Company will enable employees to unleash even greater creativity as it continues to provide its customers around the world with content and services that fulfill their expectations,” Square Enix’s announcement says. “In so doing, the Company will strive to further enhance its corporate value.”
