Spice and Wolf VR 2 Confirmed for PlayStation VR & Oculus Rift, Won’t Support Oculus Quest

Date:

The virtual reality (VR) anime Spice and Wolf VR by Spicy Tails launched last year for several headsets including Oculus Quest, with the studio also mentioning work had begun on a sequel. This week the team has released further details on platform support as well as new artwork.

Spice and Wolf VR 2

Taking to Twitter, Spicy Tails has confirmed that Spice and Wolf VR 2 will support PlayStation VR, HTC Vive, Oculus Rift, Oculus Go and Steam, with Valve Index and Windows Mixed Reality headsets not officially support – the suspects the title might work. Far more surprising is the confirmation that the Oculus Quest platform won’t be.

The Spicy Tails account simply said: “I failed the examination. Perhaps the price / play time ratio was judged based on the game.” The store has always been notorious for being difficult to get onto due to the way its curated, which is why SideQuest has become so popular. Hopefully, this may change as Facebook has previously said that in 2021 developers will find it easier to distribute apps with sideloading.

As there’s no native support Spice and Wolf VR 2 will be playable via Oculus Link if you have a PC. There’s also the small fact that both Oculus Rift S and Go are on the chopping block, the former being discontinued in Spring 2021 whilst sales of the latter end this year. Spicy Tails hasn’t set a release date but it can’t be far off because of Oculus’ previous statement saying: “We’ll stop adding new Go apps into the Store after December 18, 2020.”

The franchise is based-on Isuna Hasekura’s original novel which tells the tale of a 25-year-old travelling merchant called Kraft Lawrence. On his journey, he stops in the town of Pasloe where he comes across a wolf-deity named Holo who is over 600 years old. Taking the form of a 15-year-old girl – except for a wolf’s tail and ears – she joins him to see the world and eventually return to her homeland. Spice and Wolf VR 2 is expected to continue this story, although no plotline has been released at just yet.
