Sony Investing ‘Aggressively’ in First-Party Studios, Exclusives

Sony plans to put another $183 million into its first-party studios in addition to building out partnerships with third-party studios.

Sony chief financial officer Hiroki Totoki detailed the plan during Wednesday’s Sony earnings call.

“In terms of costs, we plan to increase development, personnel and other costs in our in-house studios by approximately [$183 million] year-on-year as we further strengthen out in-house produced software,” Totoki said.

Sony recently mothballed Japan Studio, one of its oldest first-party development studios. Reports indicated the studio’s Japan-first approach chafed against the larger company’s ambitions for global hits and caused some to worry that Sony was moving away from developing smaller, riskier games in-house.

Totoki also cited Sony’s recent partnership with Assassin’s Creed creator Jade Raymond’s new studio, Haven Entertainment Studios, as an example of the kind of partnerships the company is pursuing.

“To enhance our software offering, we intend to continue investing in or partnering with external studios in addition to aggressively investing in our in-house studios,” Totoki said.

The spending outlined in Sony’s earnings call reflects Sony CEO Jim Ryan’s recent claim that the PlayStation 5 will have more exclusive games any previous generation of Sony console.

“We have been quietly but steadily investing in high-quality games for PlayStation, and we will make sure that the PS5 generation will have more dedicated software than ever before,” Ryan told Nikkei last week.

“We have repeatedly engaged in mergers and acquisitions, including Insomniac Games in the US,” he said. “We will not rule out that option in the future.”

Exclusives are a key piece of Sony’s strategy for this console generation, and they’re undeniably a major reason for the PS5’s runaway success even in the face of manufacturing struggles. The next two exclusives coming down the pike are Return on April 30 and Ratchet & Clank: Rift Apart on June 11.

What does Rook’s armor do in Rainbow Six Siege?

Avatar

Published

on

Rainbow Six Siege features a diverse cast of operators with different abilities and tools to help their team. Some are tedious and tough to master, while others provide excellent support and are easy to use. Rook, one of the original operators in Siege, is a perfect example of the latter.

Rook’s armor plates provide an excellent boost to teammates that can make a difference in gunfights. But a lot of players aren’t familiar with what the plates actually do.

Rook can place a bag full of armor plates each round that he and his teammates can pick up. Players can only pick up one armor plate at a time and can grab a plate at any point during a round.

The plates provide a 20-percent armor boost to the user without penalty, which is an incredible boost for a team. The plates also guarantee players will enter the down-but-not-out stage when damaged instead of instantly dying. But a headshot will still instantly kill a player even if they are wearing Rook’s armor.

If a player is picked up by a teammate, they will lose the armor plate. But they can pick up another plate if there are plates available. Rook’s Armor Pack can be destroyed by enemies, so avoid waiting long to pick it up. Also, avoid shooting it, since friendly fire can also destroy the pack.

Rook is an excellent choice for new players because he is available by default and his ability is easy to use. Just ping the armor pack to let your teammates know it is available, and they will have a slight advantage for the rest of the round.

TOTW 33 Predictions FIFA 21: Who’s Getting in?

TOTW 33 predictions for FIFA 21 are coming in as fans prepare for yet another Wednesday content drop in Ultimate Team.

Team of the Week cards are more or less irrelevant at this point in the year for actual gameplay. Yes, they’re still required in Squad Building Challenges here and there, but fans are more concerned with what those particular SBCs are and which Team of the Season cards they’re working into their teams. Especially considering TOTS cards replaced TOTW items in FUT Champions rewards at the start of the promotion.

Still, expect EA Sports to eventually release a repeatable TOTW upgrade SBC at some point in the rest of the FUT cycle. Perhaps they’ll even make it 84+ overall.

Here are some favorites for TOTW 33 in FIFA 21:

Expect there to be a decent amount of Premier League players in this TOTW considering the PL TOTS squad just left packs. The headliner of the group should more than likely be Robert Lewandowski. Although, if the Bundesliga TOTS squad is next, he will miss out considering he’ll be featured in that promotion and there cannot be two special versions of him in packs at the same time. Same goes for Sancho.

TOTW 33 will be announced and released May 12 at 1 p.m. ET.

5 Best AD Carries in League of Legends Patch 11.10

The AD carry role in League of Legends Patch 11.10 is one of the pivotal roles in the game. Teams look to their AD carries as the focal point of damage and their main job is to take down the enemy’s front line so that the backline doesn’t stand a chance. In 11.10 there are a couple of changes in the bot lane but none that will drastically influence the landscape of the role.

Here are the five best AD carries in League of Legends Patch 11.10.

Jinx

Even though she received a nerf in 11.10 Jynx is still the best AD carry in the game by a long shot. She does overwhelming damage and has a ridiculous attack range thanks to her rockets.

Caitlyn

Caitlyn was a star in 11.9 and that’s going to continue in 11.10. She’s able to pin down enemies with her traps and deal big damage with her ultimate. With the right support pairing she’s a nightmare in the bot lane

Jhin

What Jhin lacks in movement speed he makes up for with huge attack damage. Players that pick up this champion must be prepared because your performance as Jhin will be entirely dependent on whether you’re able to hit skill shots. But if you can, no one will be able to stand up to you.

Kog’Maw

Kog’Maw got a few tweaks last patch that has helped him moving into 11.10. Thanks to the mana reduction on his E his harass is at an all-time high. Kog’Maw is now a bully in the bot lane and moving forward this will be the case in 11.10.

Samira

As one of the most polarizing champions in the game, Samira’s spot on the list could be argued. But many would agree that she deserves to be here. Samira players dominate matchups once they hit their power spikes and in 11.10 it’ll be more of the same.

5 Worst Mid Laners in League of Legends Patch 11.10

League of Legends

League of Legends: Zoe

As always in League of Legends, Patch 11.10 will have some champions who get the short end of the stick. Some of these champions probably won’t see any action at all this entire patch but it’s important to know who to stay away from, if not for yourself then for the benefit of your team.

Azir

Sadly this once great champion is now a complete afterthought in the mid lane. Azir’s problem is not only that he isn’t meta but his kit as a champion is extremely difficult to use. So even if you wanted to utilize this champion you’d be severely handicapping yourself.

Orianna

Don’t let the miraculous plays of these pro level mid laners fool you, Orianna is not for the faint of heart. She has very useful tools and mobility which makes her a solid pick at the pro level for those that are mechanically sound and seasoned with her. But for those looking to climb their way to higher ranks it’s not worth the hassle for you to even think about using this champion.

Syndra

What was said for Orianna can be applied here as well. Syndra’s damage potential is absolutely scary. But it requires a lot of set up and maneuvering that most players aren’t willing to commit to. If you understand how to play Syndra she can be a devastating pick but otherwise she can be very frustrating as a champion pick.

Twisted Fate

Twisted Fate is a situational play, you’ll need to understand how his cards work and how to implement them in situations to achieve the any kind of success with him. Although mages are extremely powerful right now if you can’t play around your cards and efficiently use your ultimate to manipulate fights your team will essentially be playing 4-vs-5.

Zoe

With one of the lowest win and pick rates Zoe finishes this list off because her kit just isn’t viable in any way. Her ultimate is useless, her normal skills outside of her Q don’t do much to help players that need to handle their matchup. It’s always a battle to sustain until team fighting begins and that makes her a terrible pick as a champion.
