Solaris: Offworld Combat is coming to PSVR this June with a physical release from Perp Games. According to a First Contact Entertainment representative, the digital version is planned to release a month earlier in May.
Perp Games on Twitter: “We’re not finished just yet. Solaris Offworld Combat is the next game to be getting a physical box release. Coming in June to global markets! Will you be buying it? https://t.co/5sphrqsh10” / Twitter
Solaris: Offworld Combat on PSVR
Originally, Solaris was coming to PSVR late last year around the same time as the Quest and PC VR version of the game but got delayed. Now, it’s slated for release in just a couple of months.
The latest VR shooter from First Contact Entertainment (creators of Firewall Zero Hour) is a sci-fi competitive VR shooter that feels a bit like Quake in VR due to its speed and intense arena levels. It’s a very breezy, fast-paced game that’s accessible and easy to quickly jump in and out of. The closest comparison is probably Hyper Dash.
Soalris is a notable release because other than Firewall Zero Hour, there really haven’t been many options for shooter fans on PSVR. Alvo is coming soon too, but the headset is on its last legs at this point.
The PS Aim Controller continues to be one of the best things about the PSVR platform, so I’m all for seeing more games support it, but it’s a shame games like this didn’t hit PSVR earlier in its life cycle. Hopefully PSVR 2 on PS5 is backwards compatible and it can give late-life cycle games like this one new life when it releases.
Solaris is coming to PSVR very soon with a planned digital release in May and physical release from Perp Games in June. For more on this game make sure and read our Solaris: Offworld Combat review and stay tuned for all the latest in VR.
‘Painting VR’ for Quest Aims to Bring Out Your Inner Bob Ross
There’s a few really great art apps on Oculus Quest already, such as Tilt Brush, Kingspray, and Gravity Sketch, but very few focus solely on painting on virtual canvas. Enter Painting VR, a new painting simulator that lets you mix and use unlimited amounts of fresh paint while creating on realistic canvases. That’s right, there’s no ‘undo’ button here.
Developer Oisoi.studio bills Painting VR as an app that’s “very hands-on, easy to understand, and aimed at all ages.”
“Play around and feel the relaxing satisfaction of putting unlimited amounts of fresh paint on a huge canvas,” Oisoi, says. “Teach yourself the basics of colors, the painting process and composition. Sharpen your skills by experimenting with the tools and techniques at hand, and become part of a new wave of digital artists. All without having to bother about cleaning up afterward.”
Check out the trailer below to see Painting VR in action:
Painting VR is available via Oculus App Lab for Quest, and is priced at $10.
Painting VR is planned to stay in early access on App Lab for “about a year,” the studio says, with updates coming every trimester.
The studio says its second update will add more creation tools, whilst the third update will focus on “connecting with the world and other users.” A fourth update will introduce the ability to add new environments and tools through the game’s upcoming market place.
The art app is currently only available for Quest and Quest 2, however the studio says it’s considering a port for other VR platforms as well.
How Augmented & Virtual Reality Technologies Are Redefining the Retail Business?
Augmented reality (AR) and Virtual reality (VR) will reach USD 1.6 billion in the Retail industry of the global market by 2025. By considering such a huge potential market, retail businesses must expectantly anticipate adopting these emerging technologies. The demand will significantly rise in the future as the implementation of these technologies developing advanced customer experiences let businesses grow and enhance financial prospects. Bringing AR and VR into retail favorable for retailers and consumers alike to have a better buying experience while decreasing operational cost for retailers, and giving an immersive, engaging experience to customers.
COVID-19 is proof that every industry must look forward to transforming its business into digital is the only way to keep up the global presence. In the Retail industry, Digital transformation with AR-VR technology conveniently fulfills consumer’s demand by offering services and products they want. For example, the majority of consumers want virtual interactions while shopping to avoid in-store gatherings. Thanks to virtual reality to make this possible. We will cover all the AR-VR aspects that retailers can take advantage of from this blog post. Let’s begin!
“ Augmented and Virtual Reality market will reach $170 billion by 2022, as per the research.”
Retailers utilizing Augmented Reality in various ways. This technology signifies the overlaying of digital entities onto the surrounding reality and is performed with the help of various devices like smartphones or tablets.
Here are some of the use cases in the retail industry.
Try Before Buy
How wonderful that one can experience the product just sitting in front of the digital device before making a purchase? Sounds cool! It is the most interesting and involved form of using AR in retail trying on the products before buying. It is a highly engaging functionality that e-commerce businesses should consider and execute at a dynamic scale which leads to higher customer engagements for a constant hike in sales.
- Lenskart provides try-on features to let customers try on glasses by creating a 3D face model of the head and Digitizing the glasses photo-realistically. Customers can take several glasses on a 3D model and choose from which glasses will look better on the face. It reduces the confusion of how it will look and encourages customers to purchase.
- Gucci launched a mobile app in which users can try any pair of sneakers virtually. Here you have to point the device’s camera on the foot and it will create a 3D model of the sneaker.
- Just like the Snapchat or Instagram filters, cosmetics retailers can launch an application to allow their customers to try lipsticks, eye-shadows, and other products on their faces before ordering.
- Ikea offered its customers to virtually place sofas, tables, and other furniture in their homes.
Better understands product
Brands can provide additional information about the product by implementing AR technology in their business.
- Toyota utilized an AR app to let their customers know how their new car with a Hybrid drivetrain works. The app involves visuals of inner mechanisms and processes so that users can better understand how it works. Also, adding text or images on a product that the camera points to for better understanding.
Easy navigation in stores
It will be challenging to find goods in big brick-and-mortar stores as it is a time-consuming process. Augmented Reality application makes this easier to navigate in stores. When you enter the store with the list of goods you want to purchase, based on it the app recognizes good’s shelves and creates the optimum route involving all the items. Also, it would help to guide with digital arrows. It will help customers to easily navigate goods and not misplace in other departments without spending a couple of hours in-store.
- Find My Way is a mobile app that helps customers to navigate in stores. Also, it helps to find your seats if you have scheduled a movie or event. It is pointed towards reducing as much contact with others as possible and staying up with social distancing amongst the COVID-19 pandemic.
Gamification and Loyalty
Gamification is a great way to engaging people with your brand at a deeper level. Users spend a longer time in gamification not only drives better loyalty programs but also providing insights into customer preferences which can help retailers target prospects with better personalization.
- Walmart launched an app to entertain and engage customers while shopping. Users can simply scan the QR code on different products and get the chance to play branded games, interacting with animated cartoons, clicking selfies with specially created filters and masks.
Virtual Reality can be a transformational tool as it can design, plan, and boosting customer experience in the retail sector. What’s more, if there’s any confusion to adopt virtual reality into your business, the following might clear any pessimist.
“The utilization of Virtual reality in the retail and marketing industry to build USD 1.8 billion by 2022, as per ABI Research.”
Here are few areas of retail stores that can take advantage of Virtual Reality.
Users Can Explore Virtual Stores
Retailers can look for creating a virtual store to give a better virtual experience while shopping. Customers can virtually explore every shelf in 360-degree rotations. These immersive experience gives an attraction to your customers for return back and keeping loyalty.
Designing Stores and Displaying Goods
Utilizing the potential of virtual reality retailers can make a digital model of a store which they want to build. By creating this digital copy they can be able to analyze multiple designs, make changes to them, and arranging in an optimum way. Similarly, they can arrange products on shelves. It is an effortless way to try and change store goods in the digital model with Virtual Reality before doing in the real world. The adoption of VR can save time and money for retailers.
Designing and Presenting Products
A similar way VR assists with planning stores it can help to design products. before building a real automobile, ford utilizes VR technology to observe a virtual model of it. With VR technology, retailers can also build a simulation of the product to give their customers an advanced level of experience. Audi offers the driving experience with the support of a VR headset to its customers.
If every automotive brand adopting these advancements, then dealerships might be smaller and cost-effective, since there would be no requirement for placing cars in high quantity at a single spot.

Review: VR Skater
I’ve been waiting a long time, but now a developer has finally brought the skateboarding experience properly to VR
It took a long time until a developer finally released a VR skateboarding game, which could really convince me as a long-time board lover. I don’t really like praise, but since skateboarding is the board that means the world to me, I’ve been waiting for this moment for a long time. Now let’s see in which points the game could convince me.
With a little practice it goes easily from the hand
Anyone who has ever stood on a skateboard knows that this is not an easy task. Even learning the first tricks is no walk in the park. Fortunately, there is an extensive tutorial in the game, where you can learn the movements step by step. Thus, every player will eventually become a pro skater. However, you are not completely taken by the hand like in Tony Hawk Pro Skater and casually do kickflips at the push of a button. The movements to do the tricks are very close to the leg movements of the real tricks. For example, you’ll pull a Shove-It by pulling the back of the skateboard towards you, just like on a real board. Don’t expect to be perfect right away, but the sense of accomplishment from your first kickflip or manual will quickly become apparent. Motion sickness has also not been a problem so far, as the implemented game mechanics keep this to a minimum. So far, none of the game testers had any problems with it.
Grinds and slides are smooth as butter
Your first encounters with rails or ledges will be like something out of a picture book. All game mechanics already seem really mature and even the grind or slide behavior just feels right. But before you venture out on various handrails you should practice the corresponding tutorials to learn the button assignments and movements of the tricks. The Early Access version of the game already offers a large number of well-known grind and slide tricks. In addition to boardslides, you’ll also find tail and nose slides, 5–0’s and nose grinds in the trick assortment. Some new tricks are already planned for the future. Maybe bluntslides, crooked grinds or even darkslides will find their way into the game. Besides grinds and slides, you also have manuals to skate through the levels like Rodney Mullen.
The level design is almost nostalgic
Who doesn’t know it? The school level from THPS 2. In VR Skater, the first level in the Early Access version will also be a school level. It is equipped with many picnic tables, stairs and ledges and brings back memories of the good old Tony Hawk’s Pro Skater 2 time. Immediately, a nostalgic feeling arose and I felt transported back to my childhood. But now I’m not just a mere screen viewer, but a real skater in the game. I can’t wait to see what levels will be added in future updates. So far, though, the current level is still keeping me on my toes after 25 hours and I’m always finding new lines and skate spots to beat my current score. Along the way, there will also be challenges that you can complete while skating.
The soundtrack is also worth listening to. So far, five songs are included in the Early Access version of the game, which immediately reminded me of the good old THPS times. Skate and pop punk at its finest, which immediately put a big grin on my face and accompanied me through the levels at full volume. It is rounded off with a little hip-hop, so that there is something for every VR skater. Even after 25 hours of playtime, I still can’t get enough and I’m going to add the songs to my smartphone playlist so they can accompany me during my outdoor skate sessions. Right here below you can listen to the sound for yourself.
Conclusion: Absolutely recommended purchase for skateboarders and those who want to become one
I’ve been a skateboarder for 12 years and I love VR Skater. Especially for days when it’s raining or when I’m still sore from my last skate session, VR Skater comes in handy. It really gives me the feeling of being on a real board. Also the tricks are so close to the real skateboard tricks that I felt at home right away as an old skate veteran. VR Skater is also the perfect game for skateboarding newbies or those who have always wanted to try it. It will be released today as an Early Access game and you can get the game for around 20 bucks on Steam. VR Skater contains so much love for the genre and attention to detail that it is 100% worth the money. Below you can find the link to the Steam page, where you can already add the game to your wish list.
Trailer zum Early Access Release
Discord invitation and future updates
You are also welcome to join the VR Skater Discord and get the latest info on what exciting updates will be coming to the game. And these are already planned numerous. Speaking of planning. For 2022, in addition to the now appearing Steam version, a quest version is also planned. More details will only be available next year. In the meantime, you can play the game on all common PC VR glasses, as well as with the Quest 2 via Virtual Desktop, Air Link or Link Cable. Only WMR support is still a long time coming, since the tracking is too inaccurate there so far. However, the developers are already working on a fix.
