Slacked Benched by Florida Mutineers, No Replacement Announced Yet

The Florida Mutineers have had one of the toughest times in the Call of Duty League 2021 season thus far, and it is sad given how strong they were last year. It looks like changes are on the way, though, for the Mutineers, as it looks like changes are happening with Josiah “Slacked” Berry.

Slacked Has Been Benched

Slacked, the starting player for the Mutineers, has been benched by the Florida team for the future. He revealed this on Twitter, noting that he moved from the starting roster to the substitute bench for the season.

He kept the post short and simple, stating that he is “not sure what the future looks like” but that he will continue to “work hard” from now on. While this move is not too surprising overall, it does mean that the player is not gone from the Call of Duty esports for good, fortunately.

Berry will still get the chance to compete in the foreseeable future but from the Challengers division. He will likely play for either one of Florida’s affiliated Challengers teams there or be loaned off to another one for the rest of the 2021 season.

For now, this will conclude his time with the Mutineers as one of the starting players on the roster. This is an unfortunate result for the player who has been with the team since the second season began. He was still a good sport and wished the team luck with the rest of the season.

No Replacement Has Been Announced

Of course, you might be wondering, “who is the replacement for Slacked on the Florida roster?” And that would be a great question to ask because we don’t know yet. We would have announced it here if we did already know, but Florida has yet to reveal that info.

We haven’t heard anything around the grapevines, either, just yet, and Berry could not provide information about that. At the time of writing this, the Mutineers have yet to reveal who the new fourth main player will be for the team in the next stage of the competition.

This is potentially undecided right now, as we wouldn’t be surprised if Florida benched Slacked without having the backup plan lined up just yet. However, they wouldn’t make that move without having a player or two in mind.

Likely, the paperwork is still being finished, or the agreements are just there to be made, and then that person will join the roster. If we had to guess, though, you could almost expect that it will be a new rookie player who will get their debut chance in the league.

Could We See SlasheR or MajorManiak Join Florida?

Or, crazier still, we could potentially see someone who is an existing pro, like MajorManiak or SlasheR. Many fans lamented those changes recently, so Florida can strike a deal and pick up one of them.

Either one would be a great pick and a potentially huge help to the Mutineers during this tough time in the league for them. At the same time, though, rookies have ruled the season thus far. We could get someone else who is a star player from the Challengers division.

If I’m honest, though, I think it makes sense for the Mutineers to pick up one of the existing pros. Normally, I would vouch for a rookie, but they already have Neptune, who isn’t currently ranked as one of the best in the league stats-wise, but that might be because of Florida’s unfortunate circumstances thus far.

Perhaps with someone like a former teammate of Neptune’s, we could see that change, so we could see it go either way. Regardless, Florida needs the help as they are currently ranked in the bottom four of the leaderboard after the second Major.

Despite the win that they were able to get there, they did not earn any money for the tournament, just some points, and that wasn’t much either. The Mutineers have not been able to catch a break this year, with the loss of Fero last year tragically shifting the future of the team.

Florida Mutineers Have Had a Rough and Tragic 2021 Season Thus Far

Before getting benched, Slacked had to fill the shoes before the season started, and then there were further issues that led to Neptune joining the roster. But these changes have just not been enough to help the team truly recover to a good place as they have been messy thus far.

You never know what to expect from the team, winning some great matches out of nowhere like against the LA Guerrillas in the Major, but then losing ones that they should have probably won like against Seattle Surge who, ironically, Slacked was previously part of during the inaugural season.

We are now heading into the third stage of the Call of Duty League 2021 season, and it is high time for teams to make their near-final major moves for their rosters. Because of how it works this season, if you don’t make it into the top eight in the standings, you aren’t in the playoffs this year.

With the points differences between the top half and bottom half increasingly growing bigger each stage, it is only a matter of time until a comeback is nearly impossible. Stage 3 is right in the middle of the 2021 season, so Florida is time to really dig in and make some huge changes here if they want a fighting chance. Stay tuned for news of who the new fourth starting player will be soon.
