Singapore to Get Rid Off Quarantine and Travel Restrictions in a Week

Date:

Singapore to At the end of the month, Singapore will dramatically lift its coronavirus-related travel restrictions. After having some of the tightest controls in place for a long time, the city-state now believes the moment has come to open its borders without quarantine. This is due to the fact that the majority of its COVID-19 cases are local. Prior to the outbreak of the coronavirus pandemic, Singapore was a popular transit point for travellers heading to the Far East. Singapore Airlines, the country’s official carrier, was instrumental in carrying passengers from all over the globe to Changi Airport, where a plethora of connections awaited them. Singapore was also a key stop on routes connecting Europe and Australia, as well as a notable destination in its own right for business and motorsport. Everything changed two years ago, when the magnitude of COVID-19’s influence on the world of commercial flying became obvious. Entry into Singapore is now a tricky task. Certain nations have been classified as Vaccinated Travel Lanes by Singapore (VTL).  Passengers who have been fully jabbed can enter quarantine-free from here, but only on VTL-specific flights. Additionally, such tourists must complete a pre-departure and an on-arrival test.

No more a complex matter

The arrivals procedure for passengers heading to Singapore, however, will be substantially streamlined by the end of the month. This is because, on March 31st, at 23:59 local time, it aims to simplify its admission procedures by eliminating the VTL programme and adding all countries to its ‘General Travel Category.’ As a result of this change, what an inbound traveller must do upon arrival in Singapore will no longer be determined by their country of origin, but rather by their vaccination status. As a result, all immunised travellers are no longer subject to quarantine. The requirement to take a test upon arrival will also be eliminated, according to the Independent. This implies that for people who have had at least two vaccinations, the pre-departure test is the last remaining hurdle. However, Al Jazeera reports that Singapore is contemplating eliminating this rule. Meanwhile, non-vaccinated visitors to the nation will face entrance permission, testing, and quarantine restrictions.
