The Pokémon Company Is celebrating the launch of a new travel initiative in Japan called Pokémon Air Adventures, which will feature Pokémon-themed jets starting with a Pikachu, in partnership with Japanese aviation company Skymark. There will also be Pokémon designed buses, trains, and airport gates, along with in-flight merchandise.
With this initiative, Niantic is also going to push some related rewards live in Pokémon Go to help promote players going and creating “wonderful travel memories.”
Starting on July 22, players in Okinawa, Japan will be able to encounter a special Pikachu wearing an Okinawan kariyushi shirt. It will be available for around a year, according to Niantic’s blog post.
The developers are looking at potentially adding more costumed Pokémon that will be exclusive to certain regions. These will be used to promote travel in other areas of the world, though no further details are available at the moment.
Niantic is also making Shiny Corsola available for the first time, though it will be a separate regional exclusive. The exact locations players can encounter Shiny Corsola aren’t listed, but it will likely include everywhere that Corsola normally appears, like points in Australia, Florida, and other tropical areas. This portion of the promotion doesn’t have a set time limit.
More details about both special Pokémon encounters and Pokémon Air Adventures should be made available closer to the July 22 launch.
