Sharks have announced that Fillipe “pancc” Martins has been reinstated to the team after suspending the player on January 8 following sexual harassment allegations made by a teenage girl on social media. He will fill the void created by the departure of Raphael “exit” Lacerda, who was transferred to MIBR on Tuesday.
The Brazilian player was initially suspended for a period of four to six months after making sexual advances towards a 16-year-old girl and requesting intimate photographs. His salary was cut as a result and he had to undergo therapy, which was paid for by the organisation.
pancc returns to Sharks’ active lineup
In a statement, Sharks said that the decision to reinstate pancc was made following a medical report giving the player clearance to resume his normal work activities, although he will still have to continue to receive psychological treatment.
“In view of his development and commitment to psychological monitoring, I recommend that the patient returns to normal work activities and continues with his treatment,” Nathalia Henriques, the psychologist that has been treating the player, said in her report.
“I also recommend continuing the treatment for a better adaptation to the return of his professional activities and to the consequences that this return will have on social media, which will need to be faced by Filipe.”
Sharks said that pancc will continue to see his salary cut and that he will still have to donate a percentage of his wages to a not-for-profit organisation that supports women who are victims of sexual harassment.
“We are committed to the person’s recovery and expect the player to be worthy of the trust of the organization and the community,” Sharks added.
