It seems like match fixing accusations never seem to go away, and recently, the ESEA bans five CSGO players. These players were previously a part of the orgs Team Rebirth and Russian Canadians. This accusation came from a bit of leaked audio features a trio of Team Rebirth roster members talking about getting around the outcomes of a pair of ESEA matches. Originally going down in October 2020, this concern matches against Russian Canadians and Incognito. Just this past weekend, however, justice was handed down by the ESEA.
Integrity in Esports is Key
The ESEA made an announcement on April 3rd, where they discussed these five players who were caught match fixing in CSGO. The announcement, made on Twitter, is as follows:
“As part of the ongoing ESIC investigation, we are suspending the players from Team Rebirth from all competitions until the investigation is concluded. We continue to support ESIC and will always enforce actions against violations of competitive integrity.”
The following players are banned until the investigation has concluded:
- Sebastian “retchy” Tropiano (ChocoCheck)
- Kevin “4pack” Przypasniak (Inactive)
- Carson “nosraC” O’Reilly (ChocoCheck)
- Alex “vek” Voynov (OCG)
- David “J0LZ” Jolin (OCG)
We recently talked about how Riot Games is also looking into match fixing for CSGO, much like the ESEA/ESIC. It’s gotten so bad that even the FBI is reportedly taking part in the investigations due to “outside betting syndicates” being involved. Match fixing isn’t going to go anywhere anytime soon it seems, but we sure hope it does. In this particular instance, it seems to have begun with the Team Rebirth members reaching out and the Russian Canadians (or two of them) being willing to reciprocate.
Sadly, this isn’t even the biggest match fixing scheme we’ve seen in the CSGO scene. Back in October, 7 CSGO players were implicated in a match fixing scheme. We’ll be keeping our eyes on this match fixing investigation as it develops.
