Server CPU Developer HJMicro Bags Nearly $120M in Financing

Date:

Hangzhou-based CPU developer HJMicro announced that it has secured nearly 800 million yuan ($120.0 million) in an angel round and pre-A round of financing jointly led by Walden International, GL Ventures and CDH Venture and Growth Capital, 36Kr reported on Tuesday. Many leading industry partners including Biren Technology, Hangzhou Xinlanwei and CD Capital are co-investors.

HJMicro, established in August 2021, is committed to developing server processors based on ARM architecture, mainly for the data center cloud computing market. The funds are mainly for talent recruitment and related R&D infrastructure construction required for high-performance server CPUs.

According to market research firm IDC, China’s server shipments are expected to reach 5.252 million units in 2025, with a market size of $35 billion. Now, Huawei, Phytium and Alibaba T-Head have all launched domestic ARM server CPUs.

In April 2022, HJMicro announced that it had obtained the authorization of the new-generation Arm Neoverse N2 platform based on Armv9 infrastructure, marking an important step in independently developing its own server CPU. ARM architecture has occupied a dominant position within the mobile field. With the improvement of its performance and ecology, ARM began to quickly enter the data center field.

On May 25, 2022, Arm and HJMicro jointly announced in-depth cooperation in infrastructure and ecology of high-performance server processors. Both parties will rely on Arm’s high-performance products, combining HJMicro’s product innovation capabilities in the field of general-purpose processors to jointly promote the industrial and ecological realization of Arm server CPUs.

HJMicro also plans to work closely with ecological partners to provide customers with “easier to deploy” system reference solutions and promote the development of ARM server CPU industry ecology. In addition, the company and partners will jointly build joint research centers to optimize the “real workload” according to users’ application needs and to enhance their experience.
