Seoul Semi’s SunLike LEDs adopted for children’s room lighting

South Korean LED maker Seoul Semiconductor Co Ltd says that its SunLike Series natural-spectrum LEDs have been adopted by traditional Japanese lighting company Koizumi Lighting Technology Corp for use in lights for children’s rooms and living rooms. SunLike Series natural-spectrum LEDs are optimized to support healthy circadian rhythms based on natural sunlight, under which all animals and plants have evolved over 3.9 billion years.

Seoul Semiconductor claims that, in contrast to conventional LEDs, SunLike Series LEDs have three beneficial effects: Eye Better – protection from myopia in children; Study Better – support for students’ learning and concentration; and Sleep Better – improvement in sleep quality.

Based on the results of a sleep study conducted by professor Christian Cajochen and his colleagues at the University of Basel in Switzerland, LED light sources with the same measured intensity and correlated color temperature (CCT) but different spectral output can have different effects on human behavior and physiology. Published in the Journal of Lighting & Research Technology on 24 March 2019, the study found “evidence that daylight [natural spectrum] LED solution has beneficial effects on visual comfort, daytime alertness, mood, and sleep intensity in healthy volunteers.”

According to the results of a study by the Bio-Information Laboratory of Seoul National University Hospital in July 2018, SunLike Series natural-spectrum LEDs have been shown to reduce eye discomfort and improve sleep patterns.

Improved sleep has recently become more important in the midst of the COVID-19 pandemic. Various studies show that high sleep quality can boost immunity, enhancing the ability to resist a particular infection or toxin.

“Our SunLike Series natural-spectrum LEDs are an advanced technology that has achieved the highest level of eye-safety certification from the International Commission on Illumination as a safe light source with no photo-biological risks,” says Seoul Semiconductor. “In particular, it helps improve eye comfort and concentration for children.”

Introduced in June 2017, SunLike Series natural-spectrum LED light sources combine Seoul Semiconductor’s latest optical and compound semiconductor technology with Toshiba Materials’ TRI-R technology.

Navitas Semiconductor Limited today announced that their new ‘Little Star GaN’ twin mascots were launched to an excited crowd at the Xiaomi Technology and Investment Day in Beijing on September 25th.

Gallium Nitride (GaN) is a next-generation power semiconductor technology that runs up to 100x faster than old, slow silicon chips, with dramatic improvements in energy savings and power density. When ‘Little Star Gallium’ (XiaoJia) and ‘Little Star Nitrogen’ (XiaoDan) work together on ‘Planet Navitas’, we learn how GaN and fast charging not only contribute to a better consumer experience but also deliver higher efficiency and reduced pollution across the whole power electronics world, from smartphones and laptops to high-power data centers, eMobility and new energy applications.

Navitas was among a select group of partners invited to the Xiaomi Technology and Investment Day, held at the Beijing headquarters. Xiaomi visitors to the Navitas display included Chairman and CEO Mr. Jun LEI, President and CFO Mr. Xiang WANG, and VP Investment Mrs. Changsu SUN.

This study has important implications for the growing number of 3D stacking applications where thermal budget is limited.

“The paper examines thermal, mechanical, and dielectric properties for low temperature polyimides as a function of cure parameters using YES’s VertaCure XP system. We were able to demonstrate better properties as well as at least 35% lower CoO for these polyimides when cured under vacuum, as compared to atmospheric methods,” said Dr. Karim. “This study has important implications for the growing number of 3D stacking applications where thermal budget is limited.
