Rockingham Group is investing an additional £12 million in its de-fleet facility at its Automotive Logistics Hub.

Work has already commenced on a new, purpose-built facility, which will provide 50,000 square ft of vehicle processing space and a capacity to process more than 50,000 vehicles per year.

The company was previously working on a site that could process 40,000 vehicles annually.

Rockingham also has planning consent for 1.3m square feet of large-scale distribution warehousing, with easy access to the UK’s major road arteries.

Stuart Wright, principal of Rockingham Group, said: “Our ongoing investment in the 250 acre facility is part of our overall strategy to create the UK’s leading independent automotive logistics centre with vehicle storage capacity along with large scale PDI and de-fleet vehicle processing facilities.

“Our customers are on course to handle PDI and de-fleet contracts in excess of 150,000 vehicles over the next 12-18 months.  We have secured major automotive firms including GEFCO, Groupe CAT, IT Fleet and City Auction Group at Rockingham and have capacity to house more operators.

“We have the flexibility to build bespoke de-fleet and remarketing facilities, regardless of how large or technical the requirements. There is easy access for arrivals, hard surface roads, storage areas and space to create dedicated inspection, repair, and cleaning facilities.”

Rockingham Automotive Hub secure site is located in Corby central England with excellent road links to the nearby A1, M1, M6 and A14.

Rockingham Automotive Logistics Hub has implemented a multi-million-pound investment in the former raceway and has already completed refurbishment of its onsite facilities, including an executive lounge and cafe, gym, offices, meeting rooms, rest rooms and upgraded offices for the site management team

Feast your eyes on the all-new, all-electric GMC Hummer EV

GMC has a new all-electric version of its classic Hummer oversized SUV. This thing is a beast, as you might expect, with an advertised 350-mile range and a 3-second zero to 60 mph time. It’s a bit ridiculous to be honest, which is kind of what the Hummer has always been about so that makes sense.

Alongside a teaser, GMC released a number of press photos of the 1,000 HP bruiser, so take a look below. It definitely looks like a Hummer – which may or may not be your cup of tea.

Winter And All-Season Tires Put To Test – Which Are Best For AWD Car?

Avatar

Published

on

With snow already hitting parts of the United States, it’s time to talk about tires. We do that every year but we know it’s important. Many people still ask us questions like “are winter tires mandatory?” or “do I really need winter tires if I have an AWD car?” Oh, and this one is our favorite: “are all-season tires good enough when it snows?” Well, it’s time for some answers.

Tyre Reviews, one of YouTube’s leading channels for tire reviews, has a new episode that compares a set of all-season tires with a set of winter tires. More precisely, the tires used are General Grabber Arctic and General Grabber HTS60 – two of the latest and most popular General tires on the market. The test vehicle is a Volkswagen Amarok truck with selectable RWD/AWD modes.

It may come as a surprise but if you have an all-wheel-drive car with four all-season tires, you’ll accelerate faster in the snow than an RWD car with winter tires. However, acceleration is definitely not the most important aspect in winter driving – braking and turning are what matter.

And that’s where the winter tires make all the difference. To put it simply, you can be quicker off the line with the all-season tires but when it’s time to brake and take a corner, the winter tires are the better option.

Assuming you’ve read the above, you are probably wondering about what the test from the video shows in numbers. We won’t spoil it for you but will just say it’s one of the most informative and entertaining tire comparison videos we’ve seen lately. One thing worth noting is that the results could probably have been different with a front-wheel-drive car.
