Riot Games Consolidating European Esports League Operations

Date:

Riot Games has consolidated operations of its European esports leagues under its Berlin-based esports team, which currently oversees the League of Legends European Championship as well as EU Masters. The team’s responsibilities will now expand to include the Turkish Championship League, League of Legends Continental League, all European Regional Leagues, and esports initiatives in the Middle East.

The team will be led by Director of European Esports Alberto Guerrero, who joined Riot in 2017 and became Europe head of esports in 2019. Hans Christian Dürr (formerly head of esports for Germany, Austria, Switzerland, and Poland), will serve as head of esports for CIS, Turkey, and the Middle East. While Riot’s announcement regarding these moves went out on Friday, according to their LinkedIn profiles, both Guerrero and Dürr have been in the roles listed in this announcement since April 2020.

The announcement states that changes “from a player or viewer perspective,” will be minimal for the time being, but that “moving forward you might notice more collaboration between Europe and the CIS or Turkey as Riot Games continues to level up esports across all regions.”
