Returnal On PC Speculation Continues As Steam Deck Support Spotted

Project Oregon, a codename that is assumed to be Returnal on PC, has recently received a new update on Steam’s database, adding Steam Deck support to the game.

It was a few months earlier that some data miners spotted a new game on Steam with the codename “Oregon,” which is more than likely the PC port of Returnal, thanks to the data discovered from the localization files of the game, supporting the initial idea to a high degree.

As reported by VGC, the ResetEra user “Mocha Joe” have recently spotted a number of updates that have been applied to the game in a few days. While the updates don’t sound like we can figure anything about them without a perfect knowledge of coding, one of them clearly indicates that the game has received Steam Deck controller profile support.

Most likely, this means that project Oregon or the PC version of Returnal will be playable on Steam Deck at launch, which is already good news for the owners of Steam’s latest hardware hit.

Despite all these leaks and rumors, Sony still has not revealed anything regarding a PC port of Returnal. Currently, Sony’s marketing team for PC is focused on Marvel’s Spider-Man Remastered, which is supposed to be available in the first half of August 2022.

So, if we are ever going to get an announcement for the PC version of Returnal, it is probably going to happen after Spider-Man’s launch on Steam. However, it is yet to be known whether Sony plans to launch Returnal on PC this year, or if it will be pushed back to the company’s 2023 schedule.

Currently, The Last of Us Part 1 Remake and Uncharted: The Legacy of Thieves collection are both in development for PC, and the latter still has a 2022 release window. So we are either going to get a permanent 2022 release date for Uncharted on PC soon, or it could be delayed to a later date and might be replaced by Returnal if the game’s PC port is anywhere near launch.

Returnal was originally launched on PS5 back in 2021 as the first-ever AAA game from Housemarque. The team is currently working on a brand new IP.
