“We’ve always wanted to live in this type of location – we always wanted a smaller acreage, but then when we saw this block, we just fell in love with it,” Mrs Fisher says. “When we got to the top of the hill we could just see our vision for it and it was almost like the land chose us. We wanted that country weatherboard look, almost a Victorian look, but we wanted a contemporary living space inside, and we also really wanted to take in the views the property offered.

“We get beautiful northern sun during winter, and it heats up really well when it’s cold, but then it cools really well in summer. The views are incredible and every sunrise and sunset is different. Because we are on top of the hill, we designed it to withstand the elements so it’s all sealed and has been designed so the windows and doors don’t whistle in the wind. Quality was really important to us, because that’s really going to determine how enjoyable it is to live here, so we really did it properly.”

“This Christmas just gone we had a pre-Christmas gathering and then Christmas here and we had family stay over and there was so much space,” Mrs Fisher says. “There was a seat for everybody, the kids were playing outside, nobody was in each other’s pocket and because we are on the top of the hill, we have flocks of birds flying straight past the windows, whereas people living lower in the valley wouldn’t get that. But up here it’s right in your faces. It’s a different world living up here. It’s quiet and isolated without being too isolated. Hahndorf is just five minutes away and Mount Barker is about 10-minutes away.”

The couple are now looking to embark upon their next project.
“It’s been our little sanctuary and we’d love to see another family move in and enjoy it,” Mrs Fisher says. “There’s plenty of scope for them to really make it whatever they want.”
