Resident Evil 4 Reportedly Coming to Oculus Headsets in 2021

Date:

It was always a shame that the virtual reality (VR) version of Resident Evil 7 Biohazard only ever made it as far as PlayStation VR, with Capcom never making the PC version VR compatible. If a new report is to be believed then the franchise could be expanding, with 2005’s Resident Evil 4 possibly hitting Oculus headsets next year.

As reported by PC Gamer, the first part of this story involves Capcom getting hit by a ransomware attack at the beginning of November by a hacker group called Ragnar Locker. This involved the loss of around 1TB of data from Capcom’s servers. Now, this has been confirmed, with Capcom releasing a press statement on the incident, saying: “it has been the victim of a customized ransomware attack following unauthorized access to its network and has verified that some personal information maintained by the Capcom Group has been compromised.”

Now for the pinch of salt information. Because Capcom refused to buckle some of that data has been leaked, detailing info on the upcoming Resident Evil Village as well as sparking these Resident Evil 4 rumours. The title will supposedly be an Oculus exclusive with an April release date slated for both videogames. Head on over to Reddit which has more info from the leak compiled.

Capcom’s highest-ever rated videogame according to Metacritic, Resident Evil 4 got an HD remaster in 2016. With the recent successful remakes of Resident Evil 2 & 3, it was no surprise that the fourth outing would get the same treatment, expected in 2022. There’s nothing in the leak about that remaster which could be considered odd but these are rumours after all.

If the whole or parts of the leak are true then Capcom could well have started altering elements like the launch window as it looks to readdress its plans.

When it comes to horror titles, PlayStation VR’s Resident Evil 7 Biohazard continually crops up on must play playlists, so getting another from the franchise would be a boon. As and when further details come to light, VRFocus will let you know.
