PS5 release date, price, specs

Everything you need to know about the PlayStation 5’s release date and price.

2020 has finally arrived, and that means we’re quickly approaching the time of next-generation consoles. With the Xbox One Series X set to arrive this holiday season, many are curious exactly when the PlayStation 5 release date is. To help out, we’ve put together this guide which should help you understand the PS5 release date, price, and specs.

Updated: June 12, 2020 at 8:30 AM PT

PS5 release date

The PlayStation 5 is set to release “holiday 2020”. Now, this could mean anytime between November or December, as this is generally considered the holiday season. Fortunately, the latest PlayStation 5 livestream actually gave us our first look at the upcoming console, and it looks absolutely sleek. Of course, we’re sure that not everyone will be a fan of the new design, but it will be interesting to see if it offers any kind of additional cooling features or if Sony just made these changes to make it look cool. On top of getting our first real look at the new console, we also learned that it will come in two versions, a regular and Digital Edition. The physical edition will offer a disc drive, which you can use to install games like you normally would. Those who don’t like having physical discs lying around can pick up the digital edition, which removes the drive completely.

The PlayStation 5 will also offer up a slew of new accessories for fans to pick up, including a Pulse 3D wireless headset, a new media remote, and even an HD camera. Those looking to wirelessly charge their DualSense controllers can also pick up a new DualSense charging station, so you can simply place your controllers down in the charger cradle and then forget about them. No pricing has been revealed for these items just yet, but we expect to see more following in future announcements over the next couple of months. The PS5 will also support both vertical and horizontal placement, as it has in the past, and will feature USB-A and USB-C ports along the front.

While there isn’t an official release date available just yet, we imagine that we’ll see the PlayStation 5’s release date hit sometime in November, as this seems to have been the prime time for previous PlayStation launches. It also gives you plenty of time to get it for Christmas gifts, and we’re sure it will be at the top of many gamers’ lists this holiday season.

PS5 specs

The PlayStation 5 is by far one of the most anticipated releases of the year, and on March 18, Sony finally shared information about the internal specs of the console. According to a presentation by Mark Cerny, the PlayStation 5 will include the follow specs:

  • CPU: 8x Zen 2 cores at 3.5GHz (with variable frequency)
  • GPU: 10.28 TFLOPS, 36 CUs at 2.23GHz (with a variable frequency) with custom RDNA 2 architecture
  • Memory: 16GB GDDR6
  • Memory Bandwidth: 448GB/s
  • Storage: custom 825GB SSD
  • IO Throughput: 5.5GB/s raw, 8-9GB/s compressed
  • Expandable Storage options: NVMe SSD Slot
  • External Storage support: USB HDD support
  • Optical Drive: 4K UHD Blu-ray Drive

The PlayStation 5 will also feature a special boost function, that will make use of the variable frequencies supported by its CPU. This will allow the console to provide peak performance when needed. It looks like Sony is also requiring that all games be installed to the internal SSD that comes with the PS5, which should help new titles make use of the increased read speeds available because of that SSD.

We’ll update this section with even more info when we have it. You can also sign up for email updates from PlayStation directly for even more PlayStation 5 news.

PS5 price

When it comes to price, Sony is keeping things close to the chest. No official pricing has been announced, and we don’t yet know if there will be multiple editions outside of the regular and Digital Editions (ala PS4 and PS4 Pro) or if things will be contained in just the standard package. The PlayStation 4 cost around $500 when it first launched, so we expect the pricing range to be at least somewhere around in this area. It’s doubtful that the price will drop any lower, but we’ll just have to wait and see what Sony reveals as we get closer to the holidays.

Thankfully, the latest round of announcements gave us a good look at some of the upcoming games slated for the PlayStation 5, and the line-up is looking absolutely killer, with titles like the Horizon Zero Dawn sequel aptly named Horizon Forbidden West, a new Spider-Man Miles Morales update, and tons of other games making their way to the upgrades Sony console throughout 2020 and 2021.

An October Surprise, Polimon – Political Monsters comes to Mobile

Polimon - Political Monsters Gameplay Screen Shot

…once you play for more than 15 minutes, you realize the game pokes fun at everyone across the political spectrum.

Outside The Box Software (, a small Indie game studio, releases the timely satirical Turn Based RPG Polimon – Political Monsters. At first glance it may seem like a gimmick, but after just a few minutes playing it becomes apparent there’s a lot more to this genre blending game than meets the eye.

Featuring over a dozen famous and infamous U.S. politicians from the past 2 decades, Polimon allows players to take control of their favorite (or most hated) U.S. Presidential candidate. From the omnipresent Donald Trump, Joe Biden, and Bernie Sanders to fringe candidates like Kanye West. As the player’s chosen Political Monster, they will travel across the land, gaining supporters, and engaging in political battles.

The battle system parodies the classic Turn-Based RPG Trainer system while satirizing political candidates and various supporters and interest groups. “If you play the game for 5 minutes, you might get offended and send me hate mail,” says Christopher ‘Cosmo’ Evans the Lead Developer and Game Designer of Polimon at Outside The Box Software. “But once you play for more than 15 minutes, you realize the game pokes fun at everyone across the political spectrum and it also illuminates how we actually have a lot of shared interests outside of a few hot button issues.”

Polimon – Political Monsters contains over 30 hours of gameplay with a planned Online Multiplayer battle mode in the works. New Polimon will be added regularly featuring not only current politicians like ‘AOC’ but also “Legendary Polimon” such as Abraham Lincoln and Richard Nixon each with their own special movies and abilities. Polimon looks to be one of the more accessible political games to date. “Typically political games fall into two categories. They are either too esoteric requiring a near political science degree to understand or they’re too simplistic reducing the politics to whack-a-mole,” says Christopher Cosmo. “With Polimon, the idea was to create accessible and engaging gameplay that even a non-politico can do a play-through and maybe even pique their interest in politics, but also have enough depth and satire that political junkies will appreciate and have fun digging deeper.”

Polimon – Politcal Monsters is now available to download on the iOS App Store, Google Play Store, and Amazon App Store.
