We’ve broken down everything players need to know about this week’s Free Rotation selection in Pokemon UNITE.

The Free Rotation is a selection of at least four Pokemon that are free to play for the duration of the week. This gives players an opportunity to try out different Pokemon they may or may not want to purchase later on. In essence, it’s a “try before you buy” feature.

The Pokemon available for this week’s free rotation are:

For those unaware of what these Pokemon offer in matches, we’ve put together a short description below:

Cinderace is a ranged physical attacker that prioritizes regular attack over special attack. It is also a popular choice due to its passive and kit. Its highest rating is in Offense with Mobility, Scoring, and Endurance following behind, respectively. Blaze, its passive, applies a litany of buffs from marking a target for extra damage to buffing its speed and base attack at low health. Players can purchase Cinderace from the Aeos Emporium for 8,000 Aeos Coins or 460 Aeos Gems.

Mr. Mime is a melee supporter and the only special attacker of the group. Its kit is tailored for crowd control than anything else with a powerful shove and AoE stun ultimate. However, like any crowd control choice, it can be difficult to master the amount of awareness and coordination necessary to perform well. Its highest rating is tied with Support and Endurance with Scoring and Offense tied for second. Mr. Mime can be purchased from the Aeos Emporium for 8,000 Aeos Coins or 460 Aeos Gems.

Gengar is a melee special speedster that prioritizes special attack over “regular” attack. It was once one of the most deadly choices in-game, but has since taken a blow to its popularity following a recent patch. Its highest rating is in Mobility with Offense, Endurance, and Scoring following behind, respectively. Gengar’s passive, Levitate, applies a permanent buff to its movement speed when not in combat. Players can purchase Gengar’s UNITE license from the Aeos Emporium for 10,000 Aeos Coins or 575 Aeos Gems.

Garchomp is a melee all-rounder that specializes in physical attack and, therefore, uses the base attack stat. Most trainers will recognize this Pokemon as the partner to Sinnoh League Champion, Cynthia. Its highest ratings are in Offense and Endurance with Mobility and Scoring tied for second. Rough Skin, its passive ability, applies to other melee attackers by transferring some of their own damage back onto them with every hit. Those who appreciate Garchomp can purchase its UNITE license from the Aeos Emporium for 10,000 Aeos Coins or 575 Aeos Gems.

Photos: Players take to shared stage area on day two in Stockholm

Published

on

Take a look at some of the photos captured by HLTV.org’s photographers in Sweden on the second day of the Challengers Stage.

PGL Major Stockholm’s second day of the Challenger Stage saw teams playing on the main stream move out of their practice rooms and take to the shared stage area, where Josip “brcho” Brtan and Radoslaw “MAKKU” Makuch were able to capture the emotions of players as they looked to advance to the Legends Stage, or fought to stave off elimination.

The pair photographed moments of FaZe‘s match against Virtus.pro, where Russel “Twistzz” Van Dulken can be seen celebrating the win which secured the team a spot in the top 16, as well as Astralis fending off GODSENT in their first elimination matchup. More pictures were also added to the gallery for players who are finally receiving their MVP and Top 20 medals, including Robin “ropz” Kool receiving his badges for being the seventh best player of 2020, and tenth of 2019.

You can check out the complete gallery from the second day here.

PGL Major Stockholm Challengers Stage round 4 matchups set

Published

on

The second day of the Challengers Stage in Stockholm has come to a close, leaving twelve teams standing after FaZe and Copenhagen Flames advanced to the Legends Stage, and GODSENT and Sharks were eliminated.

The fourth round of matchups have now been determined, with teams set to exclusively play in best-of-three matches for the remainder of this Swiss stage as they will have everything to fight for, either to advance or to avoid elimination.

Virtus.pro will look to secure a Legends spot as they kick off day three

Kicking off the the progression matches is a tantalizing CIS clash between Spirit and Virtus.pro, who have traded series wins in their recent match-ups, and will be the first look at the latter team in series play since the addition of Evgeny “FL1T” Lebedev. Simultaneously, Heroic will take on Entropiq, while a battle between BIG and ENCE — the first time the two rosters will face off — will determine the fifth team to advance from the Challengers Stage.

The first elimination series, unfolding on the secondary stream, will pit Movistar Riders up against TYLOO, with the Spaniards heading into the match as the heavy favorites to advance to the 2-2 round.

The end of the day will bring about another two highlight matches, in which Christopher “dexter” Nong will take on his former teammates from Renegades, while Astralis continue their effort to recover from their disastrous 0-2 start in the tournament with a match against paiN.

Matches on the main stream will once again be played in the shared stage area, while the secondary stream match-ups will have teams continue to play from their practice rooms.

The match-ups for the fourth round of the Swiss stage are:

2-1 (BO3)
10:00 CIS Virtus.pro vs. Russia Spirit (Main stream)
10:00 Denmark Heroic vs. Russia Entropiq
13:45 Germany BIG vs. Europe ENCE (Main stream)

1-2 (BO3)
13:45 Spain Movistar Riders vs. China TYLOO
17:30 Europe MOUZ vs. Australia Renegades (Main stream)
17:30 Denmark Astralis vs. Brazil paiN

Fredy122 talks Rogue’s strength in the LEC’s best-of-one format

Published

on

With their second and first-place finishes in the 2021 LEC Spring and Summer Splits, Rogue seemed to be barreling down a path towards surefire success at the 2021 League of Legends World Championship before the tournament began. But regular-season success doesn’t always translate into tougher matches.

Rogue took full advantage of the best-of-one format that rules the LEC regular season, ultimately setting themselves up to fail in playoffs. They were unable to exploit their strengths in best-of-ones of out-drafting weaker teams and utilizing picks their opponents aren’t comfortable on, and failed to adapt from game to game. This led to an eventual early elimination at the 2021 World Championship where they faced tougher opponents and couldn’t rely on the go-tos they showed in Europe. In an interview with Dot Esports, Rogue’s head coach fredy122 described what makes best-of-ones such a benefit for the team and why they can’t take that level of play into more difficult games.

Only 6 players hold on to perfect pick’ems halfway through the League 2021 Worlds quarterfinals

Published

on

The League of Legends 2021 World Championship is quickly coming to a close. Since the start of the event, we’ve had to say painful goodbyes to former world champions, yet also welcome new competitors into the later stages of the tournament. This has dealt a major blow to the pick’ems of millions of players.

Out of the 6,011,257 players that participated in this year’s pick’ems to the order of how teams advance through Worlds, only six remain perfect at the halfway point of the quarterfinals. These players successfully predicted upsets such as FunPlus Phoenix’s elimination in the Worlds group stage and EDG’s victory against RNG today, which marked the team as the sole remaining LPL contender for the world championship.

Just one week ago, a few thousand players remained in the Baron Nashor tier of this year’s pick’ems, though many were thwarted by the first four-way tie in group stage history, which enabled MAD Lions and Gen.G to advance to the quarterfinals. Since then, many of these players have fallen into the Elder Dragon tier, which contains 47 players, and Blue Sentinel tier, with around 6,200 players. The players in the Baron Nashor tier will now have to hope that their pick’ems remain intact after MAD battles DWG KIA tomorrow and Gen.G and Cloud9 finish the quarterfinals on Monday.

Should any player retain perfect pick’ems through the quarterfinals, semifinals, and finals of the 2021 World Championship, they will be rewarded with every Ultimate skin currently available in the game, consisting of skins for Lux, Ezreal, Udyr, Miss Fortune, Seraphine, and Sona. Players that do not maintain perfect pick’ems will receive exclusive icons based on the points they have accumulated throughout the entirety of Worlds. The rewards will appear in their inventories once the event concludes on Nov. 6.
