PlatinumGames’ Final ‘Platinum 4’ Announcement Will be “A Little Smaller in Scale” – Hideki Kamiya

Remember Platinum 4? Yeah, that’s still happening.

It’s been almost a year since PlatinumGames kicked off their “Platinum 4” campaign, teasing four upcoming major announcements that they would make in quick succession. The first three turned out to be The Wonderful 101: Remasteredthe announcement of Project G.Gand the formation of a new studio.

The fourth announcement turned out to be a bit of a curveball, with PlatinumGames pulling an April Fool’s joke (to mixed responses), before finally teasing the actual final announcement of the bunch. It’s been many months since that happened though, and that announcement still isn’t here… so where is it?

Speaking in a recent interview with VGC, PlatinumGames’ Hideki Kamiya spoke about the same, saying that the COVID-19 pandemic threw a wrench into the timeline, but that it’s still going to happen at some point.

“We want to reveal it at the right time, but what we can say at the moment is that this was always intended as the ‘Platinum Four’, so I think that the expectations should be for something extra,” he said. “That being said, this is something that we’ve had in the works for a while.

“We wanted to get this out a little sooner but then the coronavirus happened, which I know is a common excuse, but we hope that when we can start talking about it, it will bring a smile to our fans’ faces and we’ll get a good reaction like, ‘ah, we love those Platinum guys!”

Kamiya went on to suggest that fans should keep their expectations in check, and that the announcement is going to be a little smaller in scale.

“If we had to choose one end of the spectrum, then I’d probably say it’s something a little smaller in scale,” he said. “But it’s still something I’m hoping fans will get a kick out of.”

PlatinumGames are hoping to (finally) give a long overdue update on Bayonetta 3 this year, so here’s hoping the two are connected. There’s also Babylon’s Fallwhich they’re developing with Square Enix, and I’m sure there are many people who’re dying to learn more about that game.

10 Changes Game Developers Made Based On Player Feedback

Avatar

If the people who make games didn’t listen to their fans’ feedback, they wouldn’t stick around in the industry for too long. Listening to player responses, responding to changing tastes, and adapting to new market circumstances is how developers and publishers thrive and survive. But not all of the changes that are made as a result prove to be popular among fans. Some of them turn out successful, while others don’t, and here, we’re going to speak about a few times that developers have made controversial changes based on responses from fans.

METAL GEAR SOLID 5 – DE-EMPHASIZING STORYTELLING

metal gear solid 5

Metal Gear Solid has always been focused on storytelling, and that only grew with each new instalment in the series. Thanks to Hideo Kojima’s love for films, that generally materialized as stylishly directed and cinematic cutscenes- which only grew longer and longer as time went on. By Metal Gear Solid 4, these cutscenes had expanded to ridiculous lengths, with some that could stretch on for thirty minutes, if not twice that, and for many, that was a bit much. Large numbers of players hoped that the series would reel it in with the cutscenes going forward, but with Metal Gear Solid 5: The Phantom Pain, it’s fair to say that Kojima overcorrected. There’s a severe lack of cutscenes in MGS5, to the extent that many parts of the story that should been crucial cutscenes were relegated to being missable audio logs. It’s on the complete opposite end of the spectrum from MGS4.

Top 10 Best Alien Races in Mass Effect

Avatar

Published

Travelling throughout the galaxy and meeting with an abundance of fascinating alien races is, without a doubt, one of the biggest allures of the Mass Effect series. Right from the get go, the franchise has put a large emphasis on diving deep into the histories of the many alien races that inhabit its universe, talked about their cultures and traits, about their relationships and conflicts, about what they look like, what they dress like, what they talk like, down to the minutest of details. It’s no surprise, then, that Mass Effect fans have strong opinions about them, and hold many of them dear. That includes us as well, and in this feature, we’re going to try and sort through that and rank the top 10 alien races in the Mass Effect series.

#10. DRELL

The history of the drell is fascinating. Native to the dry, arid planet of Rakhana, the drell were on the verge of dying out, but were saved by the hanar when they made first contact with the species. And though they remain grateful to the hanar for literally saving them from extinction, that’s also come at a cost, with many drell not finding their planet’s much more humid atmosphere agreeable, which in turn leads to a deadly respiratory disease called Keplar’s Syndrome. The badass repentant assassin Thane Krios is, of course, a drell, and is also one of the best characters in the series, which also earns the alien race a lot of bonus points for Mass Effect fans.

Asobo Studio seeks two senior animators for its next project.

asobo studio

Asobo Studio has been fairly busy with Microsoft Flight Simulator, which is still receiving regular content updates, but it has another project in the works. It’s currently looking for two senior animators to work on an unannounced project. Qualifications include working on a “AA or AAA video game production”, “excellent mastery of animation techniques” and having a “good knowledge of anatomy.”

While it’s unknown what this new project could be, a sequel to A Plague Tale: Innocence isn’t out of the question. The listing outright states that it’s for “The team behind ‘A Plague Tale: Innocence‘”, though this could apply to the studio in general. The title has sold over one million copies as of July 1st 2020 and was deemed a commercial success by publisher Focus Home Interactive before that.

In 2019, A Plague Tale: Innocence was rumored to be receiving a sequel in 2022. Focus Home and Asobo confirmed that they were working on a new game together but didn’t offer any more details. We’ll have to wait for more updates in the meantime. A Plague Tale: Innocence is currently available for Xbox One, PS4 and PC. Check out our official review here.

Wasteland 3 – Patch 1.4.0 Will Introduce Crafting, New Weapons Teased

Avatar

Published

Crafting can be used to create basic items or powerful new Exotic guns.

inXile Entertainment recently announced Wasteland 3’s first paid expansion, The Battle of Steeltown, and also confirmed another expansion to be in the works. However, it also noted that patch 1.4.0 would be coming soon and had some exciting features. In a new post on Steam, the developer confirmed that the patch would arrive in “the next few weeks” and introduces crafting into the mix.

Crafting doesn’t rely on a separate new skill but on discovering recipes and having resources handy. Some recipes are acquired by leveling up different skills – like First Aid unlocking Med Hypo and Medic Pack recipes. While there won’t be recipes associated with every skill, which recipes are unlocked on which skill points will be clearly denoted. If you want some of the best recipes, like high-power mods and Exotic weapons like the W.A.S.P. Gun and Freeze Ray, you’ll need to venture out into the world or purchase them from vendors.

On top of all this, certain recipes can be marked as “unknown” when acquiring an ingredient. The recipe will indicate which other resources are required but the result will remain a mystery until it’s been crafted. Make sure you have plenty of Scrap on hand since that’s also a necessary component. Unfortunately, any NPCs that provide rewards, opened crates and so on can’t be reacquired unless they’ve been sold to vendors. This is more of a feature beneficial for newer playthroughs. And yes, The Battle of Steeltown will offer new crafting recipes for weapons and armor as well.

Stay tuned for more details on the patch in the coming weeks. The Battle of Steeltown is currently slated to release on June 3rd for Xbox One, PS4 and PC.
