Perth County OPP cracking down on street racing and driving with cannabis available

Perth County OPP are reminding drivers to obey the speed limit and to store cannabis out of reach after officers charged three drivers with speeding and cannabis-related offences in Perth East last weekend.

Officers began their weekend with a traffic stop shortly after 7 p.m. on June 6 after noticing a vehicle travelling in excess of 140 kilometres per hour in a posted 80km/h zone on Perth Line 44 in Perth East, police said.

As a result, police charged a 24-year-old St. Jacobs woman with racing a motor vehicle. Her license was also suspended and her vehicle impounded for seven days. She is expected to appear in Stratford court at a later date to answer to the charge.

Roughly an hour later, police conducted another traffic stop on a vehicle seen speeding on Highway 7 in Perth East, during which an officer found the driver had cannabis readily available.

Police subsequently charged a 19-year-old Kitchener resident with speeding and driving a vehicle with cannabis readily available.

A few hours later, at approximately 1 a.m. on June 7, an officer conducted another traffic stop on Perth Line 33 in Perth East. During the stop, police once again found the driver had cannabis readily available and charged an 18-year-old East Zorra-Tavistock resident with possession of cannabis under the legal age and driving a vehicle with cannabis readily available.
