Junker Queen is the latest hero to join the Overwatch 2 roster. In this guide, we’ll help you improve.

If you look at our Junker Queen overview from a few weeks ago, you can learn everything about Junker Queen and her abilities. Naturally, this is among the most interesting tanks in Overwatch 2 right now. Even though the game is in closed beta, you will see her in almost every game.

Although some people know how to use her power, many Overwatch 2 players have no clue how to take advantage of Junker Queen. This guide will focus on providing people with all the information they need about how to win their games.

Before we start, we’d like to point out that JQ is not a hero that can work in every scenario, at least from our experience. She can do an excellent job in many matchups, but the lack of a reliable shield makes her vulnerable. In other words, think carefully before deciding whether this is the right option for the given game.

Junker Queen Playstyle

As you already know, Junker Queen is a tank with an average Health Pool and no shields. However, she makes up for it by lifestealing from the damage she deals with her wounds.

To put it another way, the more damage she deals, the more she heals. That’s one of the reasons why you should always try to hit your enemies with your abilities. Failing to do so will prevent you from lifestealing, which means you will die pretty fast.

The bad news is that hitting your abilities with Junker Queen is not easy. While hitting an enemy with the Axe is not that hard (assuming your target is in melee range), landing your knife will take practice.

Speaking of knives, this is one of her signature abilities and the thing that allows her to life steal a lot. Depending on how and where you throw it, you may be able to hit multiple enemies once it comes back to you, which will wound all of them. Hence, you will heal from all the units you’ve attacked.

Once you learn how to use this ability and hit a target, you can pull it closer to you by recalling the knife. This can be very helpful if your target is in mid-range because you can instantly use your axe after that and attack it with your regular fire mode.

Using your Carnage

Carnage is Junker Queen’s Axe, and it is her highest damage-dealing ability. Learning how to use it is of utmost importance because it will hugely impact your success. The bad news is that this is not as easy as it seems.

Unlike most abilities in Overwatch that do not have long animations, Carnage can take around 1 second to use. This time might not seem a lot, but it can make a massive difference in Overwatch 2 because Junker Queen will be vulnerable. In other words, you need to know when and how to use it.

You can do a couple of things to use your Carnage to its full potential. In an ideal scenario, you will hit your target with your knife, wait until the weapon is about to return, and pre-cast your Carnage animation. If you time it right, you will hit your target as soon as it comes close to you.

Of course, landing this combo is difficult in a 5v5 scenario, which is why there are other things you could do. For example, some people “pre-cast” the ability before walking to an enemy so that they can hit it right away. This tactic can work and it is really efficient, but only if you time it right. You will most likely miss your first couple of shots, but don’t worry, you will get used to it.

Do not waste your Commanding Shout for no reason

Due to the fact that Commanding Shout provides additional HP and movement speed, this is JQ’s only real defensive mechanism. As we’ve said a couple of times, this tank does not have a shield nor a damage-reduction ability like others.

Although some people know they should not waste their Commanding Shout for no reason, others use it randomly. Everyone wants to use the bonus movement speed and forget that the extra HP can save lives. Besides buffing yourself, you also provide your teammates with extra health, which can keep them in many scenarios.

Using Commanding Shout when needed is what differentiates the good Junker Queen players from those who don’t know how to use her. Of course, you can’t keep track of every ally, but using your shout before specific abilities from your enemies can make a difference. For example, you can save someone from McCree’s Deadeye if he doesn’t channel it long enough. The same applies to loads of other spells.

Apart from the obvious advantages of the HP buff, we also have to mention that the added movement speed can be used for kiting. Some people may underestimate this, but the ability to kite your enemies with a hero with no shield is critical. You can use this to your advantage and avoid a lot of the incoming damage or dodge certain ultimates.

Ramage can also be used defensively

One of the reasons why Junker Queen is so famous is because of her ultimate. It is not the highest damage-dealing ability in the game, but the animation and the fact that it can hit multiple targets make it special.

Aside from using the ult offensively to deal more damage, some people forget that this hero’s ult can save them. Although the damage output is not that great, hitting multiple enemies with it means you will wound all of them. In other words, you will start healing from various sources, which should make you almost impossible to kill.

The last thing we’d like to point out is that you can change directions before you start running at a given location. Similar to using her axe, Junker Queen has a short cast time for her ult. This is when you can target a specific area.
