Recently, something incredible happened for those who are fans of the Overwatch franchise, and it is the reveal trailer for Overwatch 2. In this trailer, we got to see a lot of things, and they are very exciting! Of course, next to the trailer, we also got a huge announcement that Overwatch 2 will be free-to-play, but at what cost?

What is new?

Overwatch 2 is going to have more content than we could anticipate. Of course, we already got a taste of it in the April Overwatch 2 Beta event, where people could try out Sojourn along with some other implementations.

Other than that, we got a couple of Overwatch 2 skins teased out for various heroes such as D.Va and Symmetra. There was also a brief reveal of an arctic-themed skin line in the trailer, but by far, the best reveal that the trailer had to offer was the reveal of the Junker Queen.

Those who follow the lore have probably heard about her existence, and while we did not get to see her kit in detail, we certainly saw enough to get us excited, especially at the part where she propels forward while spinning her axe(s).

New maps and modes are also coming with the release of Overwatch 2, which, as the title suggests, is on October 4th.

How is Overwatch right now?

When it comes to the state of Overwatch after the beta in April, a lot of people seemed to be a bit disappointed that the official release date was not announced. Nevertheless, the Overwatch League is still kicking strong, and it does not seem like it is going to receive the same fate as the Heroes of the Storm league any time soon.

If you hop into Overwatch right now, you will be able to find a match relatively quickly, and while the Overwatch 2 implementations are yet to come, it might be a good idea to give all the heroes a try one last time before they get the reworks that are going to come in October.

Our biggest concern about Overwatch 2’s release is the “free-to-play” part, especially due to the horrendous situation that Diablo: Immortal is in. However, that is a mobile game, and Overwatch was already available for relatively small prices through various bundles and holiday discounts.

People could pick it up quite often for a price as low as $5, which is the same price as a few loot boxes, so making it go free-to-play might actually make sense and it will hopefully not bring any catastrophic changes that will seek out our wallets.
