Oculus Quest 2 Enhancements Coming to Espire 1: VR Operative Next Week

Date:

Digital Lode launched its stealth experience Espire 1: VR Operative almost a year ago, putting players in highly manoeuvrable robot avatars to tackle levels however they wished. Just like many other VR studios the team is utilising the extra horsepower of Oculus Quest 2 to improve the experience, with new updates now revealed for next week.

Espire 1: VR Operative

As usual, the core gameplay remains unchanged as this isn’t about adding new content, it’s about refining the experience. So the Oculus Quest 2 version is about to get a lot prettier with the studio listing the following enhancements:

  • Increased pixel resolution and clarity with less aggressive dynamic foveated rendering
  • Higher mesh resolution for guards and other characters
  • Bullet impact particles from the PlayStation VR version added
  • Added ricocheting bullets for players and guards
  • Unique bullet impact sound effects added for each surface type
  • Colour-graded and optimized for the Oculus Quest 2 LCD screen

And it’s not just about what the eyes can see but also what the ears can hear. When you crouch down, the soundtrack will automatically drop the music down at the same time as increasing the sounds of footsteps and voices of guards to aid your infiltration.

If you don’t have an Oculus Quest 2 then not to worry, Digital Lode has also got some updates in store for both Quest headsets.

  • Improved shaders and materials. Added roughness and reflectivity many surfaces
  • Increased performance across the board
  • Improved loading times across the board
  • Added support for Oculus Dash “Overlays”

In Espire 1: VR Operative the days of a spy having to infiltrate secret bases physically are gone, instead, they use remote Espire Model 1 robots to do the job. These units allow players to easily scale walls and scurry through buildings if they wish to remain unseen or they can go for a more direct, gunfight approach, rebooting in a new unit when to much damage is taken.

All these updates will be rolled out next Tuesday, 17th November. For further info on Espire 1: VR Operative, keep reading VRFocus.
